West Ham United vs Brentford Preview and Team News

West Ham United Team News

A new era at the London Stadium starts on Monday night, as Nuno Espírito Santo takes charge of his first home fixture as West Ham boss. He’s already overseen a 1-1 draw against Everton and a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on the road.

There were certainly some positives in the first of those matches for the ex-Nottingham Forest manager. The switch to a 4-1-4-1 system immediately made the Hammers look more solid defensively than they had under his predecessor, Graham Potter. The East London side allowed just 0.7 xG at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, their joint-best figure so far this term.

They struggled to get into the game against high-flying Arsenal last time out, but this will be a different kind of encounter. There’ll be more onus on them to dictate the tempo and play on the front foot, which should give us a clearer idea of what to expect from West Ham in an attacking sense under new management.

The hosts are set to be without the injured Niclas Füllkrug once again, while young midfielder George Earthy is the only other confirmed absentee.

West Ham United predicted lineup vs Brentford (4-1-4-1): Areola; Diouf, Mavropanos, Kilman, Wan-Bissaka; Magassa; Summerville, Souček, Fernandes, Paquetá; Bowen.

Brentford Team News

It’s the third London derby in just five Premier League games for Brentford. They’ve made a mixed start to life under Keith Andrews, who replaced Thomas Frank in the summer. Their results at the Gtech Community Stadium, including a 3-1 victory over Manchester United last month, have been mostly positive. However, they’ve lost their opening three road fixtures in the English top flight.

That disparity between home and away results was also an issue at times when Frank was in charge. However, the Bees do look less competitive overall this term, following a number of major summer departures.

Their style has shifted to one that sees them cede possession to the opposition. They’ve averaged just a 38.6% share of the ball in the 2025/26 Premier League, compared to 47.7% last season. Brentford are also creating less from open play, but remain a real set-piece threat. They’ve also had some joy employing long balls over the top when regaining possession in their own half.

The visitors travel across the British capital, with injury concerns over Antoni Milambo, Yehor Yarmolyuk, Edmond-Paris Maghoma, and Gustavo Nunes.

Brentford predicted lineup vs West Ham United (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Hickey, Collins, van den Berg, Kayode; Henderson, Jensen; Schade, Damsgaard, Ouattara; Thiago.

West Ham United vs Brentford Prediction

  • Pick: West Ham United to win
  • Odds: +141 (20Bet)
  • Correct score prediction: West Ham United 2-1 Brentford

There hasn’t been much positivity at the London Stadium in recent years, but the appointment of Nuno is one reason for optimism. The Portuguese coach has done an excellent job at both Wolves and Forest in the Premier League. He certainly knows what it takes to get a struggling side moving in the right direction.

West Ham have already appeared more disciplined defensively under his guidance. They could still be vulnerable to the aerial threat of visiting striker Igor Thiago, but the hosts look the more likely team to force a breakthrough, with Lucas Paquetá always capable of producing a moment of quality.

West Ham United vs Brentford Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Jarrod Bowen to score anytime
  • Odds: +205 (20Bet)

Füllkrug’s latest injury setback suggests Jarrod Bowen will likely operate as a striker rather than a winger in this contest. That should only increase the goal threat of the 28-year-old, who remains the undisputed star for West Ham.

Even in a struggling team, Bowen has scored in three of his last five Premier League appearances. He should be fresh here, having only featured off the bench for England during the international break.

His speed and directness will make him a good fit for his new manager’s style of play. The ex-Hull forward should get opportunities against a Brentford side that have the joint fourth-worst defensive record in the league.
