Turkey vs Spain Preview and Team News

Turkey Team News

Turkey don’t have any major injuries in their squad. Usually known to play in a 4-2-3-1 formation, the hosts prefer to build out from the back and then expand their play to the wings.

The role that their two holding midfielders play is crucial, since they act as shields in front of their defenders and then use their expertise to create transitions.

These players, usually Ismail Yuksek and Kaan Ayhan, are known for being quick on the ball. Whenever the team lose the ball, it’s these players who are tasked with recovering it quickly and then re-distributing it back to their attackers.

Turkey, who play with one central attacking midfielder in the No. 10 role, usually Real Madrid’s Arda Guler, use him for his vision in passing and creating chances. Guler operates with two wingers on either side of him.

Turkey predicted lineup vs Spain (4-2-3-1): Ozer; Ozcan, Soyuncu, Demiral, Mulder; Yuksek, Ayhan; Yildiz, Guler, Kahveci; Akturkoglu.

Spain Team News

Spain, ranked second in the world, have the ammunition to destroy Turkey’s chances in this game. Under coach Luis de la Fuente, the Spaniards have shown new ways of passing the ball with creativity. Although they recently lost the UEFA Nations League final to longtime rivals Portugal, La Roja come into this tournament in the best of shape.

The visitors have perhaps the most exciting attacking unit in the world, with the likes of Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams operating either side of Mikel Oyarzabal. Senior centre-forward Alvaro Morata, often expected to come off the bench, is also known to add a lot of depth to the team.

Most importantly, however, Spain’s expertise lies in how well they defend, which could be on full display here. Robin Le Normand and Dean Huijsen are two central defenders de la Fuente relies on, and they’ve repaid his faith with confidence and assurance on the ball.

Vitally, these two center-backs are known for driving forward with the ball and setting in motion Spain’s widely anticipated passing routines, which usually lead to goalscoring chances in the final third.

However, midfielders Fabian Ruiz and Gavi have both been ruled out with injuries.

Spain predicted lineup vs Turkey (4-3-3): Simon; Cucurella, Huijsen, Le Normand, Mingueza; Merino, Pedri, Zubimendi; Williams, Oyarzabal, Yamal.

Turkey vs Spain Prediction

  • Pick: Spain to win
  • Odds: -147 (20Bet)
  • Correct score prediction: Turkey 1-2 Spain

Spain have a slight advantage over their opponents, and we expect them to cruise to a narrow victory. While Turkey won’t be easy to break down, with several top defenders, such as Caglar Soyuncu and Yasin Ozcan, in their ranks, La Roja know how to take games deep and end them in their own favor.

The visiting side, set up in a 4-3-3 formation, tend to use the flanks a lot and have the right personnel (Yamal and Williams) operating there. For the Spaniards, this fixture will be a test of patience and commitment, though they’re unlikely to feel threatened by Turkey’s attacking and defensive units.

Turkey vs Spain Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Spain to score the first goal
  • Odds: -192 (20Bet)

We expect Spain to open the scoring. With such bright attackers as Yamal, Oyarzabal, and Williams in their ranks, and Morata expected to come off the bench, the visitors have immense depth. Yamal and Williams, in particular, are quite hard to pin down due to their movements inside the box.

When their midfielders give them the ball, these players twist and turn between opposition defenders and rarely get caught in challenges. Both are also immensely confident in one-on-one situations. The same goes for Oyarzabal, who is expected to play as the lone striker and provide La Roja with his precision in front of goal.
