Sacramento Kings vs Oklahoma City Thunder Preview

Sacramento Kings Team News

Coming off their third loss in a row to the Boston Celtics, the Sacramento Kings have been struggling to build momentum, which could kill their chances at a playoff spot.

As the ninth seed in the Western Conference, it’s looking like their only option will be to hopefully win a wildcard game.

However, the young team leader De’Aaron Fox has been in a bit of a slump recently, averaging just 21 points and 7.5 assists over the last 10 games, down from his season averages. Alongside him, DeMar DeRozan has been streaky, showing flashes of all-star-level play before going back to forcing mid-range jumpers.

Their defence has also continued to struggle with little to no inside presence, giving any elite slasher a free lane to the basket, but with Damontas Sabonis returning, they should have a better chance.

Nonetheless, they’re a talented group that could sneak a win from the OKC Thunder as long as their shots are dropping, but if they have to rely on defence, they may be out of luck.

Oklahoma City Thunder Team News

The Oklahoma City Thunder look like a force of nature this year, having won 13 of their last 15 matches, burying teams by as much as 30 points regularly. The team’s combination of athleticism, size, and skill, have created one of the most potent combinations in the league, tough for really anybody to guard.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has continued to lead the way, with averages of 32.8 points, 5 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 1.8 steals. His ability to draw defenders has been a huge part of OKC’s success, as guys like Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren have more time to shoot, or even a free basket in many cases due to defences shading toward SGA.

Holmgren is currently slated to be a maybe for Tuesday’s game with a minor hip sprain, but even without the big man, they should have no issues putting down a weaker team. With a much larger inside presence and shooters to match, the OKC Thunder should be able to tear apart the King’s defence down the stretch.

Sacramento Kings vs Oklahoma City Thunder Prediction

  • Pick: Oklahoma City Thunder to win
  • Odds: -435 (20Bet)
  • Score prediction: Sacramento Kings 98 -117 Oklahoma City Thunder

After losing to the Boston Celtics on Monday, the Kings aren’t being given a break as the number one-seeded OKC Thunder will be looking to push their win streak to 7. The Kings will likely be playing on the back foot, as the Thunder have all of the momentum going into this matchup, even if Chet Holmgren doesn’t manage to lace up.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will have a field day with De’Aaron Fox, as he’ll likely struggle to stay in front of the shifty guard, especially with no real shot-blocker to shade toward. Moreover, Jalen Williams and Isaiah Hartenstein should provide some energy and scoring, with the 7’0 Hartenstein sitting down low.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Thunder should have another large advantage, especially down low. The perimeter guards can play much more aggressively knowing they have a big man to clog the lane.

The Sacramento Kings aren’t looking too hot, to be honest, as the core of the team has simply been unable to play winning basketball on a consistent basis. De’Aaron Fox and DeMar DeRozan have been able to limp the team to some wins, notably beating the Cavs a few games back, but when it really comes down to crunch time, they don’t have that clutch gene in them.

Their one upside is the offensive side of the ball, as they do have 6 guys averaging double-digits from the field, with shooters like Zach Lavine dropping bombs from deep. DeRozan’s shot selection has also been mediocre, but his ability to get to the rim has really caused issues for some teams.

With Damontis Sabonis returning to the lineup, their inside presence will definitely be stronger, but Holgren should still have the advantage.

All in all, OKC Thunder fans should have nothing to worry about going into Tuesday’s game, with the Thunder set as huge favorites. The isolation-heavy playstyle of the Kings combined with no real defensive presence really puts Sacramento in a bind, but maybe if they go on a run, they could potentially put something together.

Sacramento Kings vs Oklahoma City Thunder Betting Tip

  • Pick: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to score to score to score 32.5 or more

With no lockdown perimeter defender sitting on SGA’s hip throughout the game, he should have a field day on the offensive side of the ball. As the team’s focal point on offence, he should have no issues getting enough touches to push passed his season averages.

  • Pick: Teams to win both halves: Oklahoma City Thunder
  • Odds: +260 (20Bet)

The OKC Thunder should maintain control throughout the game, winning both halves as long as they play their game. The Kings simply have no answer for them on the defensive side of the ball, whether its inside or outside scoring; it’ll likely be an onslaught.
