Real Madrid vs Mallorca Preview and Team News
Real Madrid Team News
It’s been a positive start to La Liga for Real Madrid as the Xabi Alonso project continues to develop. After some terrible individual errors in defense contributed to their Club World Cup exit against PSG, they’ve appeared much more assured at the back in their opening two domestic fixtures.
While the opposition wasn’t the toughest, a 1-0 victory against Osasuna and a 3-0 triumph away to Real Oviedo give them some solid foundations to build from. Center-back Dean Huijsen has been the standout among the new signings. The Spain international has completed 90.8% of his passes and hasn’t been afraid to stride forward and get involved in more advanced areas.

That has helped Los Blancos overcome the absence of a truly convincing option in the holding midfield role. They’ve also looked less likely to get caught out in transitions than was the case under Carlo Ancelotti last term.
Alonso made some intriguing selection calls on matchday two. Dani Carvajal was preferred to Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, while Rodrygo was out from the cold and into the team, with Vinícius Júnior dropping to the bench.
We may see those players swap around again here, given the impact Vinícius made when he came on in Oviedo. Madrid are still missing Jude Bellingham and Endrick due to injuries, while Eduardo Camavinga and Ferland Mendy are considered doubtful.
Real Madrid predicted lineup vs Mallorca (4-3-3): Courtois; Carreras, Huijsen, Rüdiger, Carvajal; Tchouaméni, Valverde, Güler; Vinícius, Mbappé, Mastantuono.
Mallorca Team News
It’s one point from two games for RCD Mallorca so far. With both Barcelona and Madrid on the schedule before the international break, it was always going to be a tough start for Jagoba Arrasate’s squad. They were reduced to nine men after only 39 minutes against the defending champions on matchday one, so it was difficult to reach any firm conclusions from that 3-0 defeat.
However, we got a clearer indication of their level against Celta Vigo in their second outing, which ended 1-1. While they needed a late equalizer from Mateu Morey to salvage a point, it was a fair reflection of an even and largely uneventful 90 minutes.

With minimal business done in the transfer market and the same coach at the helm, Mallorca’s strengths and weaknesses should be similar to those in the 2024/25 campaign. They remain well-organized defensively, with Antonio Raíllo and Martin Valjent forming one of the best center-back partnerships in La Liga. They also have a talented young goalkeeper in Leo Román.
However, their attacking approach can be quite one-dimensional. They tend to go long to striker Vedat Muriqi, without attempting any more expansive build-up play. As a result, it may be tough for them to get the best out of their creative players, such as Sergi Darder and new addition Pablo Torre.
Muriqi and Manu Morlanes return from suspensions on Saturday, so the visitors should be at full strength at the Bernabéu.
Mallorca predicted lineup vs Real Madrid (3-4-1-2): Román; Kumbulla, Raíllo, Valjent; Mojica, Darder, Morlanes, Morey; Torre; Muriqi, Joseph.
Real Madrid vs Mallorca Prediction
- Pick: Real Madrid to win
- Odds: -455 (20Bet)
- Correct score prediction: Real Madrid 2-0 Mallorca
We are likely to see Mallorca start with an extra central defender, and their wing-backs may drop deep to form a back five out of possession. That would leave Real Madrid with a similar task to the one they faced in their opening home fixture against Osasuna.
They failed to score from open play in that encounter and only hit the target with five of their 18 attempts. There was clearly some rustiness after an extremely limited preseason following the Club World Cup. However, they should be a bit sharper in terms of their finishing and attacking movement 11 days on.
Real Madrid vs Mallorca Prediction, Betting Tip
- Pick: Real Madrid to win to nil
- Odds: -119 (20Bet)
With a newfound solidity at the back, Real Madrid look capable of keeping a clean sheet here. Aside from Huijsen’s positive impact, they have more leadership in defense now, with Carvajal fit again and Rüdiger back from a six-game suspension.
Alonso has shaken things up by showing that he’s not afraid to drop key players. That should result in a motivated home lineup eager to impress the new boss, which in turn ought to help them maintain their focus across the full 90 minutes.
As for Mallorca, they rarely play with much ambition against the top sides. They lack the kind of pace that would enable them to offer a genuine threat on the break, so it’s hard to see them creating many opportunities.
