Real Madrid vs Barcelona Preview and Team News
Real Madrid Team News
El Clásico is always the biggest match on the Spanish soccer calendar, and this one takes on added significance for Real Madrid. It’s their first with Xabi Alonso at the helm, and they’re gunning for revenge after losing all four meetings last season.
Los Blancos can take confidence from their strong form this term. They’ve won 11 out of 12 outings across all competitions and head into this fixture following 1-0 victories over Getafe and Juventus.
For the first time since August, Kylian Mbappé failed to score in midweek against the Italian giants in the Champions League. He was still heavily involved, but it was a more balanced performance overall, one that wasn’t so focused on serving the Frenchman.

Vinícius Júnior had some bright moments on the left, while Jude Bellingham made many of his trademark runs into the penalty area.
It’s the other end of the pitch that will be giving Alonso sleepless nights heading into this encounter. Real Madrid were caught out on the break by Juve on a number of occasions. Thibaut Courtois made some important saves, while Raúl Asencio needed to make a last-ditch challenge to preserve their lead late on.
Asencio injured himself in the process of that action and is now a doubt for this match, along with fellow center-backs Dean Huijsen and David Alaba. The hope is that Huijsen will recover in time to feature, but Antonio Rüdiger is definitely out. Right-backs Dani Carvajal and Trent Alexander-Arnold are both expected to be available, but Fede Valverde may be preferred in the role.
Real Madrid predicted lineup vs Barcelona (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Carreras, Huijsen, Militão, Valverde; Tchouaméni, Güler; Vinícius, Bellingham, Mastantuono; Mbappé.
Barcelona Team News
A 6-1 midweek win over Olympiacos was a much-needed boost for Barcelona ahead of this top-of-the-table clash. They’d struggled in their previous outings, losing back-to-back fixtures against PSG and Sevilla, before needing a very late goal to seal a 2-1 win over struggling Girona in La Liga last weekend.
Against the Greeks, their defense wasn’t exposed as frequently, but there have been some serious cracks evident over the past few weeks. With Raphinha injured, Barça haven’t been able to press as effectively from the front, and that has contributed to even relatively limited sides being able to play straight through them at times.

That vulnerability in central areas of the pitch is a worry, but Hansi Flick will at least have more offensive options available to him on Sunday. Fermín López returned to the starting lineup with a hat-trick on Tuesday and looks a likely starter at the Bernabéu, while Ferran Torres is also fit again and could go straight into the team up front.
Raphinha could also play some part in this game, although Robert Lewandowski remains a major doubt. The visitors will also have to cope without the injured quartet of Marc-André ter Stegen, Gavi, Joan García, and Dani Olmo.
Barcelona predicted lineup vs Real Madrid (4-2-3-1): Szczęsny; Balde, E. García, Cubarsí, Koundé; Pedri, de Jong; Rashford, Fermín, Yamal; Ferran.
Real Madrid vs Barcelona Prediction
- Pick: Barcelona to win or draw
- Odds: -145 (20Bet)
- Correct score prediction: Real Madrid 3-3 Barcelona
Real Madrid have struggled in the big matches on a consistent basis over the last 18 months, and even under Alonso, that trend has continued. They’ve invariably had enough individual quality to outclass most of their opponents, but their collective flaws have been exposed by better sides.
There have been signs of greater harmony of late, with Arda Güler’s excellent link-up play with Mbappé one example of how things are starting to click in an attacking sense. Los Blancos should be much more competitive in this season’s Clásico encounters, but their defensive selection issues suggest they may not get more than a point on Sunday.
Real Madrid vs Barcelona Prediction, Betting Tip
- Pick: Both halves over 1.5 goals
- Odds: +200 (20Bet)
There were 23 goals scored in the four encounters last season, and we should get plenty this weekend too. Under Flick, Barcelona very rarely adopt anything other than an aggressive, high-risk approach. That should be the recipe for another entertaining meeting between these two eternal rivals.
The Blaugrana caught Mbappé offside on eight occasions in the corresponding fixture last year, but their high line hasn’t been as effective so far in the 2025/26 campaign. That could serve up plenty of opportunities for the in-form striker in this contest.
The visitors should also find space by attacking the heart of what won’t be a full-strength home defense. With Ferran available, they’ve also got a player who can run in behind and potentially find himself in one-on-one situations, while Lamine Yamal has the ability to produce a moment of magic at just about any moment.
