Pacific FC vs Cavalry FC Preview and Team News
Pacific FC Team News
Pacific sit at the bottom of the standings, and their hopes of making the playoffs are virtually gone.
The main factor contributing to this decline appears to be a series of poor transfer decisions made over the past year. Unfortunately, none of the new players have successfully integrated into the team or consistently performed at the level that was expected of them. As a result, the squad feel disjointed and lack the quality that characterized their previous seasons.

James Merriman’s men have struggled to build effective positional attacks, particularly in the final third of the pitch. Defensively, they can organize into a solid low block, typically using a 5-4-1 formation. When executed well, this defensive structure can be very difficult for opponents to penetrate.
However, the Tridents’ main weakness this season has been a troubling tendency to make individual mistakes, which have resulted in many conceded goals, undermining their defensive stability.
As a result, Pacific have earned a reputation as one of the weakest defensive sides in the Canadian Premier League, in stark contrast to their performance in previous years. To make matters worse, their shot conversion rate has also been poor. Despite creating goal-scoring opportunities, they’ve lacked the clinical edge needed to turn those chances into goals.

In their most recent game, Pacific suffered a 0-2 defeat against Atlético Ottawa. Before that, they endured another 0-2 loss against Forge. Their only victory in their last ten competitive matches was a 3-2 win over HFX Wanderers.
There is, however, a glimmer of hope, as they’ve recently acquired striker Alejandro Díaz. His arrival could inject much-needed potency and a new dimension into their struggling attack.
Pacific remain without Ronan Kratt and Juan Quintana, both ruled out for the rest of the season due to ACL tears sustained in early May.
Pacific FC predicted lineup vs Cavalry FC (5-3-2): Melvin; Mukumbilva, Lajeunesse, Ndom, Tugwell, Chung; Toualy, Young, Heard; Bustos, Diaz.
Cavalry FC Team News
Cavalry have only secured two victories in their first seven matches. Head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. and his men’s frustration has been evident in recent weeks, particularly after their latest back-to-back defeats: a 0-1 loss to York United followed by a 1-2 loss against Valour.
Cavalry have consistently generated a high number of scoring opportunities and demonstrated a strong, attacking style of play. However, their finishing has been, quite frankly, disastrous. This inability to convert chances has repeatedly hampered their efforts this season, stopping them from turning their dominance on the field into real results.

On the other hand, the Calgary-based club have had a solid defensive record. Defensively, they’re on par with the league’s strongest teams, such as Atlético Ottawa, and are only slightly behind the formidable Forge. This strong foundation is crucial, but it’s the attacking side of their game where they’ve struggled to meet expectations.
Cavalry’s current struggles stem from two main issues. First, they often find it difficult to break down opponents who use a deep, low defensive block. Second, even when dominating in terms of territory and statistics, they have consistently failed to convert that advantage into goals. These shortcomings have left them trailing the league leaders – nine points behind Forge and ten behind Atlético Ottawa.

Cavalry forward Ali Musse is serving a suspension after receiving a red card for violent conduct in the fixture against York United on July 26. He’ll miss at least three encounters.
Cavalry FC predicted lineup vs Pacific FC (4-2-3-1): Carducci; Aird, Kobza, Montgomery, Gherasimencov; Shome, Piepgrass; Wahling, Camargo, Henry; Warschewski.
Pacific FC vs Cavalry FC Prediction
- Pick: Cavalry FC to win
- Odds: -129 (20Bet)
- Score prediction: Pacific FC 0-2 Cavalry FC
Considering the tactical trends, Cavalry’s defensive strength gives them a big advantage. Even when their attack falters, their backline and midfield provide a reliable shield.
On the other hand, Pacific’s vulnerabilities, particularly their tendency to make individual mistakes, leave them exposed to Cavalry’s attacking pressure. Although the visitors have struggled with finishing, the high number of chances they usually create suggests a breakthrough is always on the cards.
The psychological aspect is important as well. Cavalry will be highly motivated to break their losing streak and close the gap on the league leaders, while Pacific may be playing mostly for pride at this point.
Pacific FC vs Cavalry FC Prediction, Betting Tip
- Pick: Total Over 1.5 Goals
- Odds: -358 (20Bet)
Against a Pacific side prone to defensive lapses and frequent concessions, Cavalry will likely find the back of the net at least twice. While the hosts’ own scoring record has been poor, a single goal from them, perhaps on a counterattack or a set piece, can’t be ruled out.
