Orlando Magic vs Boston Celtics Preview

Orlando Magic Team News

After losing by 9 in game two, the Magic will be looking to flip the momentum in game three, as if they end up down 3-0, they can basically kiss their championship run goodbye. Even with Paolo Banchero playing some of the best basketball in his career, dropping 36 in a stellar game 1, in the crunch, the Magic simply aren’t able to come up with the buckets they need.

They’ve been doing a great job at playing around their strengths, especially with the fast transition buckets that have been helping Banchero fill the scoresheet, but when it comes to grinding a team down, they’re not at Boston’s level.

Even with Banchero averaging 34 and Franz Wanger 24 points per game, the Orlando bench has been terrible so far in the series, and it’s not looking like either star will be putting the roster on their back.

Nonetheless, their defence has been solid overall, holding Boston to under-season averages in terms of scoring, showcasing that, at least on that side of the ball, they’re decent.

It’s really looking like Wagner and Banchero will need Herculean performances to walk out with the dub in game three, but who knows, crazier things have happened.

Boston Celtics Team News

The Boston Celtics have continued to perform well, even without their star Jayson Tatum lacing up, as he has been out due to a wrist injury. The Boston roster overall has been looking dangerous, to say the least, in this postseason, as they’ve got 6 guys scoring 10 or more points a game, with Derrick White making a huge difference.

Unlike Orlando, when Boston’s star player needs to sit out, there are guys who can fill the space, as the team hasn’t been built around one star but from the ground up. Boston will beat you on the defensive side of the floor long before they outscore you, which is a sign of a great playoff team.

Their lockdown inside and outside defensive presence is absolutely smothering; you have Jrue Holiday sitting on your hip from the inbound and a massive 7-footer down low.

Boston should have the edge going into Friday’s matchup as long as Holiday is again able to play. If Boston is missing both Holiday and Tatum, that could potentially leave an opening for Banchero to make something happen.

Orlando Magic vs Boston Celtics Prediction

  • Pick: Boston Celtics to win
  • Odds:-256 (20Bet)
  • Score prediction: Orlando magic 101 – 107 Boston Celtics

Orlando is looking at an uphill battle going into game three, as Boston has all of the momentum and a deep enough roster to survive a couple of injuries, even to key players. Unlike a top-heavy roster like Orlando, Boston has plenty of role players able to step into bigger roles if the time comes.

With or without Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Derrick White should continue to produce at a high level on the offensive side of the ball, while key guys like Al Horford and Payton Pritchard add some supplemental scoring. Orlando has struggled to keep Boston’s offence in check, as they can’t really key into any one specific player unless they want to get torched by another.

Banchero and Franz will need somebody to step up at least a little if they want a realistic shot at taking home the win, as expecting a guy to drop 30+ points per night when he only averaged 25.9 on the season is crazy. But with guys like Gary Harris and Cory Joseph seeing major minutes and only scoring a handful of points, it could be a lost cause.

Joseph and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, in particular, have been absolutely terrible, with Joseph scoring 3.5 points in 24.5 minutes and KCP averaging 4.5 in 35 minutes a game. With teammates like that, who needs enemies?

Sadly for Magic fans who were looking forward to this year’s playoff berth, it’s looking like you might get swept in 4, even with Boston struggling with injuries. Orlando’s bench simply isn’t deep enough to compete with a contending roster, even with their dynamic duo firing on all cylinders.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Oklahoma City Thunder Betting Tips

  • Pick: Paolo Banchero to score over 27.5
  • Odds: -118 (20Bet)

With Banchero likely feeling like his back is against the wall, he will once again see a game with incredibly high usage rates, which should contribute to some sizable scoring numbers. He may not have a Luka-level night, but seeing him score 30-35 points when his back is against the wall isn’t ridiculous.

  • Pick: Kristaps Porziņģis to score 19.5 or less
  • Odds: +260 (20Bet)

Porziņģis has been having a decent series, all things considered, but his scoring numbers have been less than stellar, averaging just 12.5 points a game so far in the series. Unless he decides to take his game to the next level, 19.5 points is a little bit of a stretch.
