New York Knicks vs Indiana Pacers Preview

New York Knicks Team News

After falling to the Indiana Pacers in game 4 with 130-121, the New York Knicks are going to be on the back foot for game 5, looking to dig themselves out of a deep hole. The tempo Indiana has been bringing to the table has been tough for New York to keep up with, especially considering they are much stronger in the half-court than their Midwest counterparts.

Even with Jalen Brunson’s 31 points on an amazing 47.4% shooting from the floor in game 4, they weren’t able to keep up throughout most of the game, really falling flat in the fourth. Without a ton of help from their role players on both sides of the ball, the deep Indiana roster has been able to hold them down, requiring either Karl Anthony-Towns or Brunson to play out of their minds to grab the dub.

However, even when everyone is firing on all cylinders, the Knicks may just not have enough juice to push them over the edge in the end, especially with the length Indiana brings to the table.

OG Anunoby could potentially be a lifesaver, though, as Tyrese Haliburton has been the driving force behind most of Indiana’s offensive action, and if he can find a way to shut him down, or at the very least slow him down, that could seriously hurt Indiana overall.

All in all, it really is looking like an uphill battle for the Knicks going into game 5. But their saving grace could be that hometown crowd at their back. The fans in Madison Square Garden have famously been some of the loudest in the NBA, and that could potentially throw Indiana off their game.

Indiana Pacers Team News

Throughout this series, and in the postseason in general, the Indiana Pacers have exceeded expectations in every way, managing to grab a clutch 3-1 lead over the Knicks before heading to Madison Square Garden.

That much-needed win in game 4 will give them quite a lot of breathing room, considering they only need to grab one more dub and they’re off to the NBA finals for the first time in forever.

Tyrese Haliburton has been absolutely massive down the stretch, showing up in ways that may not be evident on the scoresheet, but when he’s on the court, his team is straight up better.

However, he was also huge on the scoresheet in game four, dropping 32 points, 15 assists, 12 rebounds, and 4 steals, doing absolutely everything on the floor.

His play grabbed so much of the defence’s attention that guys like Pascal Siakam were able to get easier looks at the basket and easy points off his facilitation.

Defensively, the Pacers were again overall great, with their length and athleticism helping them clog the lanes, with Myles Turner holding it down with 3 blocks in game four. If you drive, you hit a brick wall, and if you try to pass around the perimeter, you might get your pocket picked.

Even with the Knicks having home court advantage in game 5, the Indiana Pacers are the favorite for a reason. Unless they completely drop the ball, they should be able to grab this dub and push to the NBA finals.

New York Knicks vs Indiana Pacers Prediction

  • Pick: Indiana to win
  • Odds: +160 (20Bet)
  • Score prediction: Indiana Pacers 115 – 110 New York Knicks

Despite most bookmakers siding with the Knicks for game 5, we have to go with the Indiana Pacers, as they’ve been playing spectacularly so far this series. Moreover, with the tempo they will be bringing from game 5, they should be able to push the pace of the game, taking the Knicks out of their rhythm and potentially taking away the benefit of the home court advantage.

Tyrese Haliburton will most likely not have a performance like in game 4, as that was an all-time great showing, but as long as he continues to play that facilitator role at a high level, they should succeed down the stretch.

Pascal Siakam will also be big, as he has more playoff experience than almost everyone in this series, especially when it comes to games as heavy as this. He likely won’t crumble when the lights are brightest, which will be huge for the overall team morale.

That being said, we can’t overlook the fans at Madison Square Garden. With the fans in New York at their back, the Knicks are going to fight tooth and nail for this dub, as they know if they lose, the city is going to burn for a while. Nobody wants to lose at home, especially when they’re down 3-1.

If Karl Anthony-Towns is able to shut down Myles Turner and grab some much-needed points, he could be huge, and if Jalen Brunson gets hot, there are very few defenders in the NBA that can keep up, even OG Anunoby.

This game could really go either way all things considered, but we have to give a slight edge to the Indiana Pacers after that dominant game 4 showing. Even with the fans against them, their length and speed should be enough to put away this Knicks roster for good.

New York Knicks vs Indiana Pacers Betting Tips

  • Pick: Jalen Brunson to score 30.5 or more
  • Odds: -110

Jalen Brunson is likely going to leave it all on the floor for game 5, as if he doesn’t, his playoff hopes are over. With this in mind, his usage rate should go through the roof, which makes him grabbing 30.5 points or more not that unlikely. Moreover, if he gets hot from 3, it could be really dangerous for the Knicks.

  • Pick: Pascal Siakam to score 20.5 or more
  • Odds: -120 (20Bet)

Pascal Siakam has far more playoff experience than most of the Pacers, which should bode well for him in this clutch game 5. He shouldn’t shrink in the big moments, taking the ball when needed, which should push his scoring number higher than his postseason averages. OG Anunoby should also be sticking to Tyrese Haliburton, which will give him some more breathing room compared to past games.
