New York Knicks vs Boston Celtics Preview
New York Knicks Team News
The New York Knicks have managed to beat all the odds, finding themselves up 2-0 against the Boston Celtics. The roster that was once seen as an afterthought has somehow managed to grab 2 games against the championship favorites with a couple of fantastic fourth quarters. Jalen Brunson has been playing great on both sides of the court while OG Anunoby slows down Jayson Tatum.
Anunoby has really been one of the unsung heroes so far, as his ability to stick to Tatum can’t be overlooked; he’s really slowing him down.

Moreover, Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart both made huge impacts in game 2 with some efficient scoring from the field. Their offence isn’t as high-powered as the Celtics by any means, but their grinding playstyle is somehow managing to put away one of the toughest teams in the league.
Kat just needs to make sure he stays big on the boards, while guys like Mikal Bridges and Hart add some much-needed scoring.
The Knicks are going to have their work cut out for them in this pivotal game three, as Boston won’t go out without a fight, but if they can grab the dub, the series could be over in 5 games tops.
Boston Celtics Team News
The Boston Celtics have suffered two heartbreaking losses to start the second round of the playoffs, but they haven’t seemed outclassed on either side of the ball. In game 2, they managed to lead throughout the first three quarters, starting the fourth almost 20 points up, but they completely fumbled it, losing by just 1 point after a terrible no-timeout call by the coaching staff.
The core of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and Jrue Holiday should be more than enough to put these games to bed, but they’ve really got to clean up that fourth quarter.

It also doesn’t help that Kristaps Porziņģis has been a complete non-factor either, with KAT stealing his lunch money throughout the series so far. The 7-footer had only 4 rebounds and 0 points in 13 minutes in game one and 8 points and 4 boards in game 2..
However, even with the gaping hole in the paint, Boston still has no business losing back-to-back games against the Knicks. The defensive-minded team should be able to pick it up, as long as they lock in for the fourth quarter.
We doubt the Celtics will go down 3-0 without a fight, and it looks like bookmakers agree. Even with the Celtics sitting down 2 games, they are still the heavy favorites for game 3.
New York Knicks vs Boston Celtics Prediction
- Pick: Boston Celtics to win
- Odds: -222 (20Bet)
- Score prediction: Boston Celtics 99 – 95 New York Knicks
The Celtics won’t go down without a fight, and will likely leave everything on the table in game three to avoid falling 3-0. They managed to dominate most of game one and two, showcasing why they were frontrunners for the title, but they completely fell apart in the fourth quarter in both game 1 and 2. Losing a nearly 20-point lead in the fourth quarter is inexcusable.
However, we have to give credit to Jalen Brunson and the Knicks, as they’ve managed to capitalize on the Celtics’ inability to finish out games, nabbing two key wins that could see them push to the Eastern Conference finals. Even without as much playoff experience as the 2024 NBA champion Celtics, they’ve shown far more grit.

OG Anunoby has slowed down Jayson Tatum a ton with his on-ball and off-ball pressure, giving his teammates far more breathing room and time to play some help-side defence.
They’re just going to have to hope they can pull it together for the first three quarters in game three, as the Celtics likely won’t give up another huge fourth quarter lead. Forget letting off the gas, Boston will be going for the throat.
Defensively, things should be much of the same, with Jrue Holiday likely putting on his A-game, trying to slow down Brunson while Tatum and Jaylen Brown lock up Anunoby and Josh Hart. If they can grind the backcourt to a halt, Town’s mismatch down low should be mitigated.

That doesn’t mean that the Celtics have this in the bag, though, because we know the Knicks aren’t here to play, but Boston should have an advantage walking onto the court. Most people counted the Knicks out going into game one; who knows what’s going to happen?
New York Knicks vs Boston Celtics Betting Tips
- Pick: Jrue Holiday to score 10.5 or more
- Odds: -102
With the Knicks’ best defender sitting on Jayson Tatum’s hip throughout the game, Jrue should have a solid shot at pushing past 10.5 points. Despite only scoring 10 points on 66.7% from the field in game 2, Jrue is going to have a fire lit under him to get the job done; he’s a seasoned playoff veteran who’s known to show up when the lights shine the brightest.
- Pick: Jayson Tatum to score 27.5 or less
- Odds: -112 (20Bet)
We can’t forget that Jayson Tatum is being marked by one of the best young defenders in the league right now, who’s not letting him get off any easy shots. However, raw shooting isn’t Tatum’s only strong suit; he’s a great playmaker, and if he continues to see the defence shade towards him with Anunoby on his hip, he’ll likely create more offence by simply swinging the ball.
