New Orleans Pelicans vs Denver Nuggets Preview

New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans have been having a rather rough time so far this season, and with Zion Williamson out for the foreseeable future with a left hamstring strain, things aren’t looking too hot. Having won only three games so far this season, it looks like Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum don’t have the oomph needed to get wins consistently.

Moreover, the Pelican’s defence is laughable to be nice, with a gaping hole on the inside and lacking perimeter defenders. Much of the team may be young guys with energy to spare, but outside of McCollum’s 2.3 steals a night, there’s really nothing special about the Pelicans defence.

Denver Nuggets

Coming fresh off of a 5-game winning streak, the Denver Nuggets have had a strong start to the 2024-2025 NBA season. Star player Nikola Jokić continues to showcase why he’s known as one of the most dominant players in the league, while guards like Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon bring intensity to the perimeter.

On both the defensive and offensive sides of the ball, the Denver Nuggets are playing at an elite level. The Joker has been doing his normal thing, averaging a triple-double, while the addition of veteran talent like Russell Westbrook has taken them to the next level.

New Orleans Pelicans vs Denver Nuggets Prediction

  • Pick: Denver Nuggets to win
  • Odds: -244 (20Bet)
  • Score prediction: New Orleans Pelicans 105 – 125 Denver Nuggets

The New Orleans Pelicans and the Denver Nuggets are in opposite spots, with one coming off 5 wins, and the other coming off 5 back-to-back losses. The pelicans unfortunately don’t have the personnel to handle the Nuggets, especially on the defensive side of the ball where Jokić is going to have a field day down low.

Yves Missi is simply not fast enough nor big enough to contain the joker down low, which should lead to a ton of easy baskets. And on the perimeter, Jamal Murray is going to abstinently cook Brandon Ingram while athletic slashers like Michael Porter Jr., Aaron Gordon, and Russell Westbrook run off his screens.

That being said, the Pelicans definitely can score, with 7 players averaging more than 10 points a game, 8 with Zion Williamson. The Pelicans have been shooting at a decent clip, with smart shot selection; they just unforcedly don’t have a much-needed star without Zion.

As long as Jokić plays and the Nuggets stick to their game plan, they should have no problem putting down the much weaker Pelicans. The Nuggets simply outclass the Pelicans in every category, defensively and offensively.

New Orleans Pelicans vs Denver Nuggets Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Nikola Jokić to score over 28.5
  • Odds: -120 (20Bet)

Jokić is easily one of the best scorers in the game, with his patented Sambor Shuffle and a bag deeper than the likes of Hakeem. Scoring 28.5 points against a team with a super weak inside should be absolutely no problem for the big guy from Serbia.

  • Pick: Triple Double – Nikola Jokić
  • Odds: -385 (20Bet)

Jokić is managing to average a triple-double this season, sitting at 28.7 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 11,7 assists per game. It’s not a rare thing for this guy to put up all-time numbers, so wagering he will have yet another triple-double really isn’t a long shot by any means.
