New England Revolution vs CF Montreal Preview and Team News

New England Revolution Team News

Currently sitting 11th in the league table, the Revolution are showing ample signs of a season that has been prepared, planned, and executed rather poorly.

In the upcoming clash, they’ll be without the services of defender Brayan Ceballos, who has been suspended. Other than him, they don’t have any major injuries in their squad, which may be the only good news they have.

New England have lost four of their last five matches and drawn the other, showing no signs of turning things around. Their defense has been all over the place, as evidenced by the fact that they’ve conceded a whopping 11 goals in their last five outings.

Up front, things haven’t been much better. They’ve scored just six goals during that stretch, averaging a little more than one goal per game. Overall, the Revolution have gone winless in eight straight fixtures, which means that they don’t have any momentum whatsoever coming into this encounter.

They’ve conceded 32 goals in the league so far – 15 of those at home – indicating that this venue hasn’t brought them much luck this season. Their xG stands at 30.3, placing them 13th in the xG standings.

New England Revolution predicted lineup vs CF Montreal (3-4-1-2): Ivacic; Hughes, Fofana, Beason; Feingold, Polster, Yusuf, Miller; Gil; Chancalay, Langoni.

CF Montreal Team News

Sitting at the bottom of the league table, Montreal have done worse than the Revolution this season and harbor no hopes of aiming for a finish in the top positions of the MLS. The Canadian club have won just three of their 24 matches and have conceded an embarrassing 45 times.

After the team have scored just 20 goals, their goal difference stands at -25. Fortunately for them, however, Jalen Neal is the only player ruled out of the upcoming clash with an injury, which means that coach Marco Donadel will be able to select his best possible starting lineup.

In their previous fixture, a 0-2 loss to Chicago Fire, Montreal kept 51% of the ball but failed to turn that into meaningful chances. Their frustrations in the final third were evident, as they took an extraordinary 17 shots in total, but could only put four of them on target.

This lack of precision in the final third has hurt Montreal all season, and there’s little reason to expect improvement in this matchup against the Revolution. One positive takeaway from the game against Chicago was their passing accuracy, which reached 87%. However, there’s no point in passing the ball well if there’s no end product in sight.

CF Montreal predicted lineup vs New England Revolution (4-3-3): Sirois; Waterman, Craig, Alvarez, Petrasso; Loturi, Synchuk, Piette; Herbers, Owusu, Sealy.

New England Revolution vs CF Montreal Prediction

  • Pick: New England Revolution to win
  • Odds: -132 (20Bet)
  • Correct score prediction: New England Revolution 3-0 CF Montreal

Despite this being a game between two minnows, we believe the hosts have an advantage and expect them to win, further piling on the misery for Montreal.

At home, New England haven’t been at their best this season, with only two wins in the 10 matches they’ve played so far. But the Canadian club’s away record is even more dismal – they’ve won just two of their 13 road fixtures.

The Revolution have also beaten Montreal in 18 of their previous 35 head-to-head meetings. Their last matchup in June ended in a comfortable 3-0 win for New England, and we expect a similar result here.

New England Revolution vs CF Montreal Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: New England Revolution to score the first goal
  • Odds: -189 (20Bet)

We expect Revolution to strike first in the upcoming game. History supports this pick – they’ve scored the opening goal in four of the last five encounters with the Canadian side (the only exception being a 1-0 loss in August 2023).

Montreal’s defenders have struggled to stick together this season, repeatedly failing to adhere to the plans set by their manager. This will allow the Revolution to attack, especially since they like to use short and accurate passes.

If blocked through the middle, New England often push wingbacks Feingold and Miller up the field in order to send crosses and lobbed balls for their attackers to utilize – this too can help them score the first goal. Tomas Chancalay has the most shots on target per match for the Revolution (1.8), and Montreal’s defenders will need to keep an eye out for him.
