Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder Preview
Oklahoma City Thunder Team News
The Oklahoma City Thunder look like they’re going to walk away with this series after clinching a win in game four in Minnesota. They may have only won by a couple of points, but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander looked to be on point after his abysmal game 3 performance, which bodes well for the team.
SGA went back to looking like his normal self, hitting clutch shots and grabbing the attention of the defence with 40 points on 43.3% shooting from the field and 28.6% from three. His fade-away jumpers in particular were nasty, putting down clutch shots over much larger defenders. This not only directly impacted the scoreline but also opened up a ton of other guys for easy shots down the stretch.

Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein both showed up in a big way as well, locking down on defense and asserting their size on the offensive side of the ball. They both had more than one poster with their names on them, which is a good sign.
Holmgren also did a great job of spreading the floor as we had hoped, pulling bigger defenders out onto the perimeter before blowing by them for easy buckets.
Alex Caruso also showed up in a big way on defence, locking down when it really mattered and playing some excellent help side when he could.

If OKC continues to play at the pace we saw last night, they should have no problems putting this series to bed 4-1. They just need to make sure they keep up that intensity on the defensive side of the ball, as they still allowed far too many uncontested outside shots.
Minnesota Timberwolves Team News
The Minnesota Timberwolves sadly lost in a nail-biter in game 4, a must-win that now has them set back 3-1. That’s basically a death sentence at this point, especially against a deep and skilled team like the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Unfortunately for Timberwolves fans, Anthony Edwards just didn’t show up for game 4, dropping just 14 points on some pretty bad shooting splits. Julius Randle surprisingly played pretty well, not shying from the occasion, but without their young spitfire running the offence, they’re always going to have a really tough time taking down a team like OKC.

The worst part of this is that Minnesota saw some real performances from their bench lineup in game four, which, if Edwards could just play a little better, would’ve easily put them over the edge, grabbing that win at home.
In particular, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Donte DiVincenzo played amazingly, shooting well, playing great defence, and hitting clutch shots when they needed to; they just needed their star to be there for them. Even Rudy Gobert managed to put in some solid minutes, creating some offence for himself.

Defensively, they were still overall solid, playing great perimeter defence, but SGA is just another beast, knocking down clutch shot after shot with a hand in his face.
Going into game 5, Minnesota is going to have to pull out something crazy if they want to beat this OKC roster on the road. Edwards and Randle will have to put in some big minutes, likely scoring 30+ points with the bench lineup showing up as they did in game 4; it’s a big ask.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs Minnesota Timberwolves Prediction
- Pick: Oklahoma City Thunder to win
- Odds: -370 (20Bet)
- Score prediction: OKC 128 – 120 Minnesota Timberwolves
Oklahoma turned it around in game 4 after falling hard on their faces in game 3, grabbing a win in Minnesota to put them at a 3-1 advantage with a home game coming up. This puts them in an amazing spot, as they’ll have the home fans at their back with all of the momentum on their side; there is a reason bookmakers have them as such strong favorites going into game 5.
As we mentioned, game 4 was a sad loss for Minnesota, as they would’ve won if Anthony Edwards simply played as he did throughout most of the postseason, but he choked.
Next up: GAME 5 IN OKC 😤 pic.twitter.com/s75mQNTQqx
— OKC THUNDER (@okcthunder) May 27, 2025
Going into game 5, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will likely take center stage, at least offensively, putting the final nails in Minnesota’s coffin. The home court advantage, combined with how well they played in game 4, should be enough.
Like in past matchups, Chet Holmgren will also be a big part of that win. His impact isn’t always seen on the scoresheet, but his ability to spread big men is huge for a player like SGA. Without Rudy Gobert clogging the paint, he’s able to go far deeper into his bag.
That’s not to say Minnesota is done for; it’s just that it’s going to be an uphill battle if they want to somehow salvage this series. Edwards is going to have to be on his A-game, likely dropping 30+ alongside playing lockdown defence on SGA.

Julius Randle could also be huge here, if he can manage to bully the skinnier Holmgren, but with Isaiah Hartenstein playing well this series, that could be quite hard. OKC’s big men are young and athletic, which complements SGA and the other guards well.
Unless Minnesota goes on a crazy run, or SGA somehow manages to choke like he did in game 3, this is likely a done deal. Minnesota’s bench is unlikely to have another game like they did in game 3, and without the home court advantage, they’re going to be on the backfoot, so we’re going to have to go with OKC on this one.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs Minnesota Timberwolves Betting Tips
- Pick: Julius Randle to score 16.5 or more
- Odds: -118
Despite choking in a couple of games throughout the series, Julius Randle has overall been playing pretty decent on both sides of the ball. With his legacy on the line, and the series potentially ending, he’ll likely put it all on the floor, easily scoring more than 16.5
- Pick: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to score 32.5 or more
- Odds: -127 (20Bet)
SGA was on his A-game in game 4 in Minnesota, and he’ll likely bring that momentum into game 5, when attempting to put away the Timberwolves for good.
With the home crowd at his back and the Conference finals on the line, seeing him score 32 or more isn’t too unlikely.
