Minnesota Timberwolves vs Golden State Warriors Preview
Minnesota Timberwolves Team News
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in control in both rounds 1 and 2 of the 2025 NBA playoffs, playing with a level of dominance many of us didn’t expect. In the half-court, they’ve been one of the stronger teams with Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle grinding teams down on the offensive side of the ball before locking them down on the defensive side of things.

Rudy Gobert has also been instrumental against the smaller Golden State roster, contesting plenty of shots at the basket and grabbing over 3.5 offensive rebounds per game. With Randle, Gobert, and Jaden McDaniels all attacking the smaller Golden State roster, they’ve been simply too much without Stephen Curry to carry the offensive load.
However, Minnesota has been winning the games more on defense than offense, with the Timberwolves holding the Warriors to just 99.75 points a game, far beneath their season averages.
The Minnesota Timberwolves should have no issues walking away with game 5 as long as they continue to play their game and don’t let Jimmy Butler control the pace. Without Stephen Curry in the lineup, they should have an easy second-round finisher.
Golden State Warriors Team News
The Golden State Warriors were looking pretty good in that first-round matchup against the number 2 seed Houston Rockets, but with their star player, Stephen Curry, still out with an injury, they’re in a bad place. The combo of Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler, and Jonathan Kuminga are simply not good enough to put down a roster like the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Butler has admittedly done his best, dropping 33 in a 5-point game 3 loss, but even when one guy goes off, their scoring output is just not playoff level. If you’re expecting a guy like Butler to bail you out and drop 50, you’re in for a bad time. Moreover, Kuminga’s 13.7 points a night aren’t really helping that bottom line.

That being said, they’re still decent on the defensive side of the ball at the very least, with Butler and Green anchoring on defence. They may not have any real shotblocker, but with their help-side defense and intensity on the perimeter, they’ve at least managed to not let Minnesota run up the score.
Unfortunately for Warriors fans, it’s really looking like your playoff hopes might be getting trashed on Wednesday. Unless Butler or somebody else puts on a miracle performance, the Warriors simply don’t have the roster to beat Minnesota without Curry.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs Golden State Warriors Prediction
- Pick: Minnesota Timberwolves to win
- Odds: -491 (20Bet)
- Score prediction: Minnesota Timberwolves 115 vs 105 Golden State Warriors
The Minnesota Timberwolves will be going for the jugular in game 5, looking to put away the Golden State Warriors before Stephen Curry can return for game 6. They’ve managed to dominate so far in the series, both in transition and in the half-court, with Anthony Edwards commanding the floor like a real veteran.
Edward has been doing everything on the floor, dropping 27 points, 8.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.6 steals a night so far in the playoffs, creating an environment where his teammates can play their best.
His gravity on the offensive side of the ball has been huge, freeing up guys like Julius Randle and Jaden McDaniels, giving them much easier baskets than they would otherwise get.

That being said, the Warriors still have some talent on their side, with Jimmy Butler, aka Jimmy Buckets, Jonathan Kuminga, and Buddy Hield putting up some decent numbers. If Butler has a top-tier 30-point night and the other two can get close to 20, they could very well push the series to 6, but it’s not too likely.
Golden State’s shooting better be on point, because Rudy Gobert isn’t going to allow any easy buckets inside.
As long as the Minnesota Timberwolves continue to play their game, and double Butler if he gets hot, they should have no problem grabbing game 5 and giving themselves some time to breathe before the Conference Finals. If they do manage to lose though, Stephen Curry in game 6 could really give them a run for their money, stretching the series to 7.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs Golden State Warriors Betting Tips
- Pick: Anthony Edwards to score 28.5 or more
- Odds: -106
The Young Anthony Edwards has already showcased that he can play on the biggest stage in the biggest moments, and this game shouldn’t be much different. Edwards will likely play with a mission to put this series to rest before Stephen Curry can step back in, which should translate to a high usage rate and decent scoring numbers. Edwards already dropped 30 and 36 in his last two games, meaning 28.5 isn’t really that far fetched.
- Pick: Jimmy Butler to score 26.5 or more
- Odds: -105 (20Bet)
Jimmy Butler has been known to show up in the biggest games when it matters most, and this game 5 matters a lot. Having already dropped 33 points in game 3, grabbing 26.5 points in a pivotal game 5 really isn’t a stretch. His usage rate should be pretty high, which, as long as he’s shooting at a decent clip, should mean some scoring.
