Milwaukee Bucks vs Los Angeles Lakers Preview

Milwaukee Bucks Team News

The Milwaukee Bucks have definitely underperformed this season, sitting at fourth in the Eastern Conference, with the team showing hot and cold streaks throughout the season.

They’ve consistently struggled to beat contending teams and are currently coming off of three straight losses in a row to teams they really have no business losing to outside of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has continued to produce at an all-time level as he has in years past, but it simply hasn’t translated to as many wins as fans hoped. With averages of 30.7 points, 12.1 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.2 blocks, you would think the team would be winning, but the bench just isn’t cutting it.

If Giannis or Damian Lillard aren’t there to create offence, the entire team grinds to a standstill, with Khris Middleton’s number falling off a cliff this year.

However, against a sick Lakers roster, the Bucks should be able to grab the dub, even with their two stars nursing injuries of their own. Moreover, the Lakers don’t have an answer for Giannis down low, which will cause some issues for the Lakers.

Los Angeles Lakers Team News

After grabbing Luka Dončić, many fans hoped the team would become a contender overnight, but they still have some growing and meshing to do, even if they did manage to go on an 8-game winning streak before losing their last two games.

Dončić has been producing at a very high level with LeBron taking more of a backseat on the offensive side of the ball, but with a multipolar team relying so heavily on just two players, they’re finding themselves in the same spot as Milwaukee.

When Dončić and LeBron head out of the game, the entire Laker roster looks like chickens with their heads cut off.

Going into Thursday’s game, things aren’t looking too bright, as Dončić is still nursing an ankle injury and LeBron declared out for 1-2 weeks with a groin strain. It’ll be an uphill battle, to say the least.

Milwaukee Bucks vs Los Angeles Lakers Prediction

  • Pick: Milwaukee Bucks to win
  • Odds: -216 (20Bet)
  • Score prediction: Milwaukee Bucks 120 – 107 Los Angeles Lakers

While the Milwaukee Bucks are far from playing as well as they should be, they’re going to have a fire lit under them, trying to break their three-game losing streak. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard may both be coming off slight injuries, but the duo should be playing at a high level, especially against a weaker defensive team like the Lakers.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Lakers will struggle to keep Giannis in check, especially if he gets going in transition, as without a guy like Anthony Davis, they have no real inside presence. While this is going on, Lillard will be lighting it up from the three, or at the bare minimum, drawing defenders and dumping the ball to a rolling big.

Defensively, they will likely continue to be as dominant as they have been throughout most of the season, with Giannis and Brook Lopez sealing up the inside while perimeter defenders focus on playing passing lanes and help side. They may not be winning a ton, but the Bucks are a tough nut to crack on defence.

However, even without LeBron on the floor, the Lakers do have Luka Dončić, who’s been known to put teams on his back and force a win. He’s managed to do a whole lot more with less with the Dallas Mavericks, and role players like Austin Reeves and Rui Hachimura will likely be on their best behaviour with LeBron out.

Dončić will continue to score at an elite level from everywhere on the court, with some supplementary scoring coming from the aforementioned roleplayers. He may be slowed on the inside, but he still has a nasty floater, so attacking the twin towers down low is still feasible.

As we said though, defence is going to be a soft spot for the Lakers, as they don’t really have any fantastic bigs, and their perimeter defence isn’t necessarily lock down. They get beat on cuts often, play weaker help side, and the hole in the paint is noticeable.

Nonetheless, it’s not like the Lakers have no chance; it’s just that the odds are really stacked against them, and the Bucks are really gunning for a home win. Milwaukee’s defence and athletic playstyle will likely prove to be a tough matchup for the ailing Lakers.

Milwaukee Bucks vs Los Angeles Lakers, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Luka Dončić to score 31.5 or more
  • Odds: -114

With LeBron James out of action for a while, Dončić will need to shoulder the majority of the offensive burden, likely driving his usage rate through the roof. Moreover, with the tiny Damian Lillard playing point, he won’t have too many larger guards hounding him on the perimeter, likely pushing his scoring past season averages.

  • Pick: Giannis Antetokounmpo to score 29.5 or more
  • Odds: -108 (20Bet)

Giannis has a habit of really turning it on when he needs to, willing his team to victory on many occasions. Coming fresh off of a 3-game losing streak, he will have a fire lit under him to score, and without any strong rim protectors on the Lakers, he’s going to have a field day in transition and whenever he gets going downhill.
