Memphis Grizzlies vs Oklahoma City Thunder Preview

Memphis Grizzlies Team News

The Memphis Grizzlies are in a rather tough spot going into game three against the OKC City Thunder, as they’re currently down two games. Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr and Desmond Bane have all been trying their best, but it hasn’t been enough to really make them competitive in this series.

Morant’s 20 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5 assists per night simply isn’t enough to lead to weaker team to any meaningful success, especially with only three guys scoring in double digits.

Moreover, Memphis has been tiny on the boards, both offensively and defensively, giving up easy buckets and putbacks because they can’t manage to put a body on somebody when the shot goes up.

Their inside defence has also left much to be desired, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams cooking them.

Unless Morant somehow manages to put on a miracle performance in game three, it’s really looking the Memphis is in for a tough four quarters, but if they lock in they could potentially push the series to 5 games.

Oklahoma City Thunder Team News

The number 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder have looked great so far in the postseason, effortlessly grabbing back-to-back dubs against the Grizzlies without much pushback. SGA and Williams have been leading the charge, both dropping 20+ points a night while the OKC bench put up some decent numbers.

OKC has been able to win these games handily without SGA needing to put on any crazy 30+ point performances so far in this series, as Memphis simply has no answer for the quick Thunder offence.

Holmgren’s presence is also being felt in the absolutely best way, as he’s been big on both sides of the ball, averaging an insane 3.5 blocks and 19.5 points a game so far this series. He’s been redirecting traffic at the rim, playing great overall offence, and making a big difference when it comes to how OKC’s overall defence performs.

OKC simply needs to continue to play at their pace, pushing the Grizzlies and taking advantage of them on the boards. They’re a much slower and less athletic roster, which should give OKC a great chance at pushing the series to 3-0

Memphis Grizzlies vs Oklahoma City Thunder Prediction

  • Pick: Oklahoma City Thunder to win
  • Odds: -385 (20Bet)
  • Score prediction: Memphis Grizzlies 109 -120 Oklahoma City Thunder

The Memphis Grizzlies are going to be on the back foot going into Thursday’s game, as the number one-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder look like they may just finish the first round of the playoffs in 4 games. With no real inside presence, the young Thunder roster has been running circles around Memphis.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams will continue to show why they are one of the best backcourts in the NBA, ripping to the basket and shooting at decent clips from deep. SGA in particular has been a problem for the Grizzlies as they’ve been unable to stay in front of the shifty guard without freeing up space for another Thunder player to get an easy basket.

Offensively, Morant is going to need some serious help from his bench if he’s going to bring this home, as the entire OKC defence is shading towards him at all times. The Thunder understand that if you slow or stop Morant, the entire Grizzlies offence will come to a grinding halt along side him.

Unfortunately for Memphis fans, going up against the heavy favorite Thunder was going to be an uphill battle regardless, as they don’t really have a team that can compete at the highest level.

Unless Morant can manage to put his team on his back for a crazy Allen Iverson-level game, the OKC Thunder will likely push their lead to 3-0, setting up for a decisive game four. From OKC’s perspective, the faster they can get done with round one, the better shape they will be in going forward.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Oklahoma City Thunder Betting Tips

  • Pick: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to score under 31.5.5

Although SGA will have mostly free rein to play as he sees fit, his usage rate won’t be incredibly high during Thursday’s game, as he won’t need to have any spectacular performance to bring home the dub. As long as OKC plays to their strength, he’ll likely finish with a cool 20-25 points.

  • Pick: Teams to win both halves: Oklahoma City Thunder
  • Odds: +260 (20Bet)

Unfortunately for Memphis, they really look to be out of their depth here, as they don’t have OKC beat in any regard. Whether it’s offence, defence, rebounding, shooting, or transition buckets, they simply are beat. With this gap, the OKC Thunder should have no issues winning both halves.
