Manchester United vs Brighton and Hove Albion Preview and Team News

Manchester United Team News

Manchester United are currently on a roll. After all the talk of manager Ruben Amorim being on the edge of his job due to a few poor results at the start of the season, the Red Devils appear to have turned the tables completely. They come here on the back of a stunning 2-1 win over their bitter rivals Liverpool on Sunday, and that victory is bound to give them a huge boost in confidence.

Prior to that, they also defeated Sunderland and Chelsea, on either side of a disheartening loss to Brentford. Amorim’s men have now won three of their last four outings and have just one player ruled out with an injury: Lisandro Martinez

Things can’t look better for the Red Devils, and they’ll have to take things by the scruff of the neck if they are to beat Brighton here and climb further up the table.

They currently sit ninth with 13 points, but with no European soccer and an early EFL Cup exit, United’s fans will want more by the end of the campaign. Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation seems to be finally working, with the players displaying a lot of class and grace, especially when operating on the counter.

Manchester United predicted lineup vs Brighton and Hove Albion (3-4-2-1): Lammens; Shaw, Maguire, De Ligt; Dalot, Ugarte, Fernandes, Diallo; Mbeumo, Cunha; Sesko.

Brighton and Hove Albion Team News

Brighton and Hove Albion are 10th in the table, just one spot below United. Unfortunately, they have a long list of injuries, which includes Adam Webster, Brajan Gruda, Jack Hinshelwood, Joel Veltman, Kaoru Mitoma, and Solly March

The team have gone unbeaten in their last five outings, winning three and drawing the rest. In their recent 2-1 victory over Newcastle United, captain Lewis Dunk led from the front and completed the most passes (63). The central defender was also helped out in his task by Carlos Baleba, who was the most accurate passer (100%) to play 45 minutes or more.

The central midfielder acts as a veritable shield in front of their defense. He plays a pivotal role in ensuring manager Fabian Hurzeler’s 4-2-3-1 formation operates smoothly. Striker Danny Welbeck will enjoy coming back to Old Trafford to torment his former club, especially after he scored a brace against Newcastle. The 34-year-old, who played 89 minutes, impressed with a 100% accuracy in both shooting and dribbling past opponents.

Brighton and Hove Albion predicted lineup vs Manchester United (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Kadioglu, Dunk, van Hecke, Wieffer; Ayari, Baleba; Tzimas, Rutter, Minteh; Welbeck.

Manchester United vs Brighton and Hove Albion Prediction

  • Pick: Manchester United to win, or draw
  • Odds: -323 (20Bet)
  • Correct score prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Brighton and Hove Albion

We expect Manchester United to win or draw. They have a more threatening attacking unit than Brighton and should be able to control the game comfortably. Brighton will have to deal with the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha, all summer signings who have added valuable depth to the Red Devils

Moreover, with Mason Mount expected to come off the bench, United are bound to cause considerable trouble for the Brighton defenders. The Seagulls will need to focus on maintaining long spells of possession and avoid giving their opponents too much space in wide areas.

Manchester United vs Brighton and Hove Albion Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Both teams to score
  • Odds: -189 (20Bet)

We expect both clubs to score. While Amorim’s side should do so anyway, even Brighton can hit back, especially with target man Welbeck being in a good vein of form. Man Utd’s weaknesses sometimes lie in their poor man-marking inside their own half, and their defenders have often been seen losing the ball when it’s sent in via crosses.

Brighton can make use of these deficiencies in the home team and strike back. Moreover, few United defenders are very proficient at headers and have frequently lost possession when long balls have been sent in towards them. This makes them susceptible during dead-ball situations. The visitors can make use of it and add to United’s poor concession tally of 12 goals already this season.
