Manchester City vs Everton Preview and Team News
Manchester City Team News
The Premier League title race is starting to take shape, with Manchester City eager to ensure they’re involved in it. Defeats in two of their opening three fixtures suggest that might not be the case. However, Pep Guardiola’s side have been unbeaten in all competitions since then and defeated Brentford 1-0 last time out.
The City boss now seems to have a clearer sense of his tactical approach than was the case at any stage during a difficult 2024/25 campaign. A run of five wins from seven overall has come using a 4-1-4-1 system.

With nine Premier League goals already, Erling Haaland is obviously the other irreplaceable figure. The Norwegian is benefitting from better service this term, with Phil Foden getting closer to his highest level and Jérémy Doku impressing out wide. The 23-year-old is averaging 1.7 key passes and 2.6 dribbles per game in the English top flight, the best figures in the Man City squad.
The hosts are likely to be missing Rodri due to a fresh injury on Saturday, with Nico González expected to replace him. Rayan Aït-Nouri, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Omar Marmoush are also considered doubtful.
Manchester City predicted lineup vs Everton (4-1-4-1): Donnarumma; O’Reilly, Dias, Gvardiol, Nunes; González; Doku, Reijnders, Foden, Silva; Haaland.
Everton Team News
There’s little pressure on Everton to get a result from this encounter, although a surprise victory would see them move above their opponents in the standings. David Moyes’s men have made a positive start to the season, losing only two of their seven Premier League fixtures.
They head into this contest after a 1-1 draw against West Ham, followed by a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace. Both matches took place at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium, where they looked particularly impressive in the second game against an Eagles side that had been on a long unbeaten run.

The win was sealed by a late goal from Jack Grealish, who has comfortably been Everton’s best player this term. His presence has elevated the level of an otherwise organized but limited team.
Much of their play has been directed down the left flank, where the 30-year-old looks to cut inside and operate as a number 10.
It’s therefore a huge blow for the visitors that Grealish is ineligible to face his parent club this weekend. That leaves the Merseysiders searching for other avenues of attack. They’re also hampered by injuries to defenders Jarrad Branthwaite and Michael Keane, who are both major doubts for this outing.
Everton predicted lineup vs Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Mykolenko, Tarkowski, O’Brien, Patterson; Gueye, Garner; Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall, Alcaraz; Barry.
Manchester City vs Everton Prediction
- Pick: Manchester City to win
- Odds: -238 (20Bet)
- Correct score prediction: Manchester City 3-0 Everton
This was always going to be a tough task for Everton, but their selection issues make it almost impossible. Their entire attacking threat is built around Grealish, who has either scored or created five of their nine league goals so far. With their two main strikers struggling to impress, it’s hard to see the visitors getting on the scoresheet.
At the other end, much will depend on whether they can get Keane fit enough in time to start. If he doesn’t play, they’ll be in a weak position in central defense, which is a nightmare scenario up against Haaland, the top scorer in the English top flight.
Manchester City vs Everton Prediction, Betting Tip
- Pick: Erling Haaland to score anytime
- Odds: -130 (20Bet)
Blessed with all the physical attributes a striker could want, Haaland should dominate what’s likely to be an injury-ravaged Everton backline. The Toffees may be forced to move Jake O’Brien into central defense, which would, in turn, create a weakness at right-back, one that the explosive Doku could certainly exploit.
That would only add to the supply that the Norway international is likely to receive in this contest. On current form, the striker looks unstoppable. He’s averaging a goal every 66 minutes in the Premier League and has scored at least once in all of his last 10 appearances for club and country.
