Luxembourg vs Germany Preview and Team News
Luxembourg Team News
This World Cup qualifying campaign has seen Luxembourg compete well against stronger teams, but they’ll be disappointed not to have any points to show for their efforts.
The closest they came was at home to Slovakia in September, when only a 90th-minute goal denied them a draw. Since then, they’ve suffered a 4-0 defeat to Germany and a 2-0 loss in Trnava in the reverse fixture against the Slovaks.
FULL-TIME
Slovakia 2-0 LuxembourgAnd with that, we are officially out of the running for a WC 2026 place. Today wasn’t great, but wasn’t terrible – back to the drawing board for Jeff Strasser, who has 4/4 losses since taking over.

Jeff Strasser became their new coach at the start of this qualifying group, and he’s trialled a number of systems. They only had 16% of the possession against the Germans in Sinsheim, but were much more expansive in their last match. Using a 4-1-4-1 structure, Les Lions Rouges had more of the ball than Slovakia and threatened on both flanks with wingers Aiman Dardari and Danel Sinani.
After such a strong display, we’re not likely to see many changes here. All of the players who started last time out are available, with the exception of defender Enes Mahmutović.
Luxembourg predicted lineup vs Germany (4-1-4-1): Moris; Bohnert, Selimović, Korać, Jans; Olesen; Dardari, Barreiro, Martins, Sinani; Muratović.
Germany Team News
Since losing their opening fixture in Bratislava, Germany have recovered to win three games in a row to top Group A. However, their current lead is only on goal difference, and all roads appear to lead to a decisive match on Monday in Leipzig against the Slovaks.
They’ll need to negotiate this test first, entering it off a narrow 1-0 away win against Northern Ireland. Nick Woltemade scored the only goal, but it was another unconvincing display from Die Mannschaft.

There isn’t much fluidity to their attacking play right now. By the end of Euro 2024, Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala had firmly emerged as the two exciting young players the team were going to be built around. However, with Musiala sidelined long-term with an injury and Wirtz badly out of form at his new club Liverpool, that process has stalled.
Midfielder Nadiem Amiri has been forced to pull out of this squad, with Assan Ouédraogo called up as his replacement. Karim Adeyemi is also suspended, while Nico Schlotterbeck is a fitness doubt.
Germany predicted lineup vs Luxembourg (4-2-3-1): Baumann; Raum, Thiaw, Tah, Kimmich; Pavlović, Goretzka; Wirtz, Gnabry, Sané; Woltemade.
Luxembourg vs Germany Prediction
- Pick: Germany to win
- Odds: -1250 (20Bet)
- Correct score prediction: Luxembourg 0-2 Germany
Perhaps the biggest positive for Germany in 2025 has been the emergence of Nick Woltemade. While his crucial strike in Belfast last month was his first international goal, the Newcastle striker has impressed for his club and excelled at the European U21 Championship in the summer. He gives Julian Nagelsmann’s side a reference point in attack for others to play off.
We should start to see more from the visitors in the final third once Woltemade plays more games and starts to understand the movements of those he has around him. That process will take more time, but over the course of 90 minutes on Friday, they should still be too strong for Luxembourg.
Luxembourg vs Germany Prediction, Betting Tip
- Pick: Under 3.5 goals
- Odds: +104 (20Bet)
A big win would make Germany’s task a lot easier on Monday, but right now, they aren’t playing well enough to suggest loads of opportunities will come their way in this encounter. In their last outing, they only registered 1.1 xG against Northern Ireland.
Meanwhile, Luxembourg allowed just 1.0 xG on their trip to Slovakia on matchday four. That suggests Strasser may have stumbled on the right structure, and we may see his side look to build from the back more here and have some limited joy in preventing their opponents from dominating in midfield.
It’s still likely to be the visitors who control most of the contest, but given that they’re currently a long way off their best level in the final third, a relatively low-scoring affair could be on the cards.
