Miami Heat vs Houston Rockets Preview
Miami Heat Team News
Miami Heat fans haven’t been having the best year, with the team currently sitting at 10th in the east with a 29-39 record. Making matters worse, they’ve been on an 8-game losing streak that doesn’t look to be breaking any time soon.
Andrew Wiggin’s injury has been one major factor, but overall the team has just been playing poorly, with no real main scoring option and some pretty weak defence.
Bam Adebayo has been only averaging 0.7 blocks a game, and their perimeter defence is anything but lockdown.
Tyler Herro has been one upside on the year, as he’s been averaging 23.5 points, 5.7 assists, and 5.3 rebounds a night, but he isn’t at the level where he can carry a roster. Without a star to pull together a rather talented team like the Heat, they just look like fish out of water.
The Heat are definitely in for an uphill battle against the Rockets, as their shooting and athleticism will be a big problem.
Houston Rockets Team News
The Houston Rockets have been on fire recently, coming off a nice 7-game-win streak, and looking to push it to 8 against a weakened Miami Heat roster. Sitting at 2nd in the eastern conference, 12 games behind the number one seed, they’ll be looking to solidify their number two spot going into the NBA playoffs.
The team has been breaking the conventional superstar game plan, with a deep roster of clutch players all working together to put together some solid wins. With 8 guys scoring in the couple digits consistently, their offence has been incredibly fluid, with guys like Fred VanVleet leading the charge.
Their inside defence has also been surprisingly capable, with Amen Thompson and Alperen Şengün putting in work.
Against the Miami Heat, they’re the firm favorite. Their pace and tempo should be too much for the Heat roster, taking control for most of the game.
Miami Heat vs Houston Rockets Prediction
- Pick: Houston Rockets to win
- Odds: (20Bet)
- Score prediction: Houston Rockets 127 – 95 Miami Heat
The Houston Rockets are the favorite by a long shot going into Friday’s game, as the Miami Heat have been playing terribly recently. The fast-paced Houston offence combined with their tenacity on the perimeter will be tough for a team that relies so heavily on Tyler Herro to create offence.
Moreover, while Bam Adebayo may be able to mark rather Alperen Şengün, Amen Thompson will still kill them on the pick and roll. It’ll be picking your poison on the outside and in, as from beyond the arch, the Rockets have had some decent shooting splits, sitting at 34.7% from three.
On the defensive side of the ball, their hounding perimeter defence will be a problem for the weaker Miami backcourt, as Fred Vanvleet and Tari Eason have been averaging 1.6 and 1.8 steals a game respectively. The Rockets really punish lazy passes.
On Miami’s side of things, it looks quite bleak, but they always have a chance at the end of the day. Tyler Herro has been known to go off on occasion, and if we manage to see Bam play to his full potential, he could be big on the inside.
Defensively, they are going to need to be active in transition, as the Rockets love to play at a high tempo, but at least the younger roster is quite athletic. And if they get hot from the three-point line, they could really do some damage over the course of the game. Terry Rozier, Duncan Robinson, and Tyler Herro are all solid shooters who have had hot hands from time to time.
All in all, the Miami Heat just aren’t at the same level as the Rockets this season; they’re simply at a disadvantage on both sides of the floor. Unless the Rockets, for whatever reason, slow down the pace and play to Miami’s strengths, it’s not looking too hot.
Miami Heat vs Houston Rockets Betting Tip
- Pick: Jalen Green to score to score 20.5 or more
- Odds: (20Bet)
Jalen Green has led the Rockets in scoring throughout the season, with a solid 21.4 points on 33.4 minutes a night. His scoring has been efficient, with shooting splits of 35.7 from deep, 83% from the line, and 42.5 from the field. Against a weaker Miami Heat roster, he’ll likely have a solid game, pushing him past his season averages.
- Pick: Houston Rockets to win all four quarters
- Odds: (20Bet)
Unfortunately for Miami fans, the Rockets are a force to be reckoned with this season, especially with the momentum they’re carrying after winning 7 straight. There is a good chance they take control of the tempo early into the first quarter and simply don’t let go of it throughout the duration of the game.
