Los Angeles Clippers vs Oklahoma City Thunder Preview
Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers have found themselves with a 20-14 going into the new year, placing them in the middle of the Western Conference. Norman Powell and James Harden have made up one of the better backcourts in the NBA, but the team is just not rounded enough to be a real title contender
Harden has been able to create offense effectively, averaging 7.8 assists a night, with Powell shooting at a great clip and Ivica Zubac adding some points here and there on the boards. However, their defence has been lacking, to say the least, with Harden being a near liability on that side of the ball.

Going up against the young OKC roster, the Clippers will need to be on their A-game if they want to slow down the shifty Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. They aren’t completely out of the game, but it will be an uphill battle.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The young Oklahoma City Thunder roster has been absolutely dominant so far this year, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander averaging 31.2 points. Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren have also been dominant alongside SGA, with Chet locking it down on the inside with 2.6 blocks a game
It’s not just the stars though, OKC’s bench has been solid throughout the season so far, with many bench players getting in key minutes to give the Stars a break. With 12 guys averaging over 10 minutes a game, they can actually rely on their roleplayers unlike rosters like the Denver Nuggets.

The Thunder have a strong advantage going into Thursday’s game, coming off of 7 straight wins. As long as they stick to their game plan, they should have a good shot at pushing their win streak to 8 games.
Los Angeles Clippers vs Oklahoma City Thunder Prediction
- Pick: Oklahoma City Thunder to win
- Odds: -435 (20Bet)
- Score prediction: Los Angeles Clippers 110 – 115 Oklahoma City Thunder
The OKC Thunder will most likely control the tempo of the game out of the gate, with the Clippers struggling to stay in front of SGA and slow down Chet Holmgren. Harden will probably get torched on the defensive side of the ball, but the question will be if the Clippers can manage to outscore the Thunder.
However, if guys like Norman Powell get going from beyond the arch, it could spell trouble for the young OKC roster, as he’s been known to get a hot hand. Ivica Zubac will also provide some supplementary scoring with boards and pick and roll plays set by Harden.

OKC, on the other hand, will need to lock-in on the defensive side of the ball, as they should have no real issues with scoring. If they can manage to stick on Harden’s hip and at least slow him down, the Clipper’s offence will grind to a standstill. Moreover, with Holmgren’s elite shot blocking, Los Angeles will have to think twice about slashing, as he has the length to basically cut off the entire lane.
As long as the Oklahoma City Thunder don’t slack on the defensive side of the ball and they continue to score at an elite level, they should have a large advantage going into Thursday’s match. That’s not to say the Clippers are down and out; it’ll just be a struggle if they want to take home the win.
Los Angeles Clippers vs Oklahoma City Thunder, Betting Tip
- Pick: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to score 31.5 or more
- Odds: -111 (20Bet)
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been dominant so far this year, taking his game to the next level since last year. Considering the Clipper’s weak defence, he should have no problems scoring at least 31.5 points or more.
- Pick: Norman Powell to score 22.5 or more
- Odds: -123 (20Bet)
Norman Powell has been leading the LA Clippers in scoring for most of the year thus far, averaging 24.3 points a night. OKC will be reluctant to give him any room to shoot, but with Harden likely creating quite some gravity, he should be able to at least get near his season average in terms of scoring.
