Levante vs Barcelona Preview and Team News

Levante Team News

Levante didn’t get off to a good start this season as they were defeated 1-2 by Deportivo Alaves in the first round.

In that game, the team played in a rather conservative 5-4-1 formation with an emphasis on defending. Even so, they struggled with marking and conceded goals from positions that should have been closed in.

Manager Julian Calero is expected to stick with the same formation against Barcelona, given their attacking style, though he could also tinker with it somewhat and play with three central defenders and two wingbacks. If he does that, Levante will be able to sport a rather fluid defensive unit that pushes forth in attack when in possession and rushes back and falls into shape once the ball is lost.

Alan Matturo, Alfonso Pastor, Goduine Koyalipou, Jon Olasagasti, and Kervin Arriaga have all been ruled out due to injuries.

Levante predicted lineup vs Barcelona (5-4-1): Cunat; Sanchez, Elgezabal, De La Fuente, Cabello, Toljan; Bruge, Martinez, Rey, Garcia; Romero.

Barcelona Team News

Barcelona enjoyed a 3-0 win over Mallorca in their first match and will look to carry that momentum into this fixture. Hansi Flick’s men have shown their hunger to challenge for the league title this season and will have to completely decimate Levante if they are to retain a foothold in the championship race.

Barça have now won five games in a row and, notably, kept clean sheets in their last three. Against Mallorca, helped by two successive red cards shown to their opponents in the first half, the team kept the ball for an eye-catching 71%.

They displayed an extremely aggressive xG of 2.14, took 24 shots in total, eight of which were on target, and dictated midfield play with an impressive 89% passing accuracy. In defense, La Blaugrana showed that they were one step ahead of their opponents by winning 73% of their tackles.

Unfortunately for Flick, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Robert Lewandowski, and Daniel Rodriguez have been sidelined due to injuries.

Barcelona predicted lineup vs Levante (4-2-3-1): J. Garcia; Balde, Cubarsi, Araujo, E. Garcia; Pedri, de Jong; Raphinha, Lopez, Yamal; Torres.

Levante vs Barcelona Prediction

  • Pick: Barcelona to win
  • Odds: -370 (20Bet)
  • Correct score prediction: Levante 0-3 Barcelon

Barcelona come into the match as clear favorites. The visiting side have a far superior attacking unit at their disposal, with the likes of Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres, Raphinha, and Lopez all operating in sync to ensure that no opportunity goes begging. Their backline has also been in exquisite form, riding the confidence of three straight clean sheets.

While Barça’s tight defending should prevent Levante from getting too close to their box, their aggressive tactics on the ball, including overlapping runs on the wings, gives them a decisive edge going forward. Having just been promoted from the Segunda Division, Levante are yet to find their feet in top-flight soccer.

Levante vs Barcelona Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: First half total – under two goals
  • Odds: -263 (20Bet)

Although the visitors have a better attacking side, we don’t expect the match to fully open up in the first half. Barcelona should control possession from the first minute, but their breakthrough is more likely to come deeper into the second half. The total in the first half should stay under two goals, with most chances falling to Flick’s men.

Barça‘s short passing tactics will make them extremely hard to keep a tab on. When they go for the kill in the second half to finish the game off, Levante will have very little to do but wait and hope for some clemency.

The Catalan giants have scored 23 goals in their last five outings, which makes them well-primed for another goalscoring fest in this one. As for the hosts, they’ll rely heavily upon the services of Jeremy Toljan, who has taken the most shots on target per fixture for them (1).
