Ever since the trade that shall not be named, the Lakers have been on an absolute tear, even with Luka Doncic’s numbers slightly down across the board. Fresh off of a 5-game win streak, they’re really shaping up to be one of the better teams coming out of the west, sitting at #2 after pushing down the Nuggets and Grizzlies.

The duo of Doncic and LeBron has been almost unstoppable, with the former of the two dropping 29 points and 9 assists against the Clippers on Monday, with LeBron adding 18 points to win 108-102. Their slashing and outside shooting have proven to be far too much for the vast majority of defensive schemes, while leaving some to be desired on the defensive side of the ball.
As long as Doncic and Lebron play on Tuesday, they should have a strong shot at winning, but both players remain questionable with minor injuries.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans have really picked up the pace over the last seven games, making up for a 9-game losing streak by winning 5 of their last 7. Zion Williamson finally looks to be in somewhat game shape, sitting at the lowest weight of his career, and is finally able to make a real difference on the court.
Over his last 10 games he’s managed to grab an average of 26.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and a decent 1.5 steals a game. These aren’t all-time great numbers by any means, but with his freakish athleticism, he can really take over a game when he needs to.

That is all to say, the New Orleans Pelicans certainly have a shot at winning against the Lakers, but for that to happen, Zion is going to need to be playing fantastic. If they don’t manage to push the tempo and punish the weaker LA defence, they’ll be dead in the water.

The New Orleans Pelicans certainly seem to have turned over a new leaf over the last 7 games, with Zion Williamson playing great, but they still have their work cut out for them if they want to have a shot against the Lakers. LA is fresh off a 6-game winning streak with Luka Doncic and LeBron James finally meshing together to get the most out of their skillsets.
The defensive side of the ball is definitely still an issue for the Lakers, as Doncic is still average on that side of the ball, but their scoring tempo is almost unmatched. They should control the flow of the game for the most part, slashing at the basket with their size and shooting from deep.

If you have two 6’8 guards with sniper range and the ability to beat you off the dribble, you’re going to be a nightmare for any roster.
However, we don’t think the Pelicans are a lost cause by any means, especially considering Donci and LeBron are both still listed as a maybe for Tuesday’s game. If those two superstars don’t lace up, the Pelicans will have a huge advantage.
Nonetheless, Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram will likely need to create most of the offence, with CJ McCollum providing some much-needed outside shooting. The main struggle is going to be locking up the Lakers duo, as Zion can only guard one.

That is all to say, the Lakers have every advantage going into this matchup, both offensively and defensively. As long as the Lakers continue to play their game, shooting well and attacking the basket, there is a good chance they put the Pelicans away in the third quarter.
The Knicks’ best option will be to slash toward the basket, attacking Hartenstein. But it’s not like he’s a terrible rim defender, putting the Knicks between a rock and a hard place.
