Inter vs Milan Preview and Team News
Inter Team News
Having won 11 of their last 12 matches overall, Internazionale enter the Milan derby with great momentum. This is their third straight home fixture, with the last two producing a 2-1 win over Kairat and a 2-0 victory against Lazio.
The Nerazzurri have been worthy victors in each of their four outings since a 3-1 defeat against reigning Italian champions Napoli. After an unconvincing start, summer appointment Cristian Chivu has settled into the role and is starting to get the best out of this squad.

The Romanian has been very consistent in terms of the basic structure, with a 3-5-2 system used in every game this season. His side have been really strong on the flanks, with wing-back Federico Dimarco perhaps the pick of their players. The 28-year-old’s crossing ability has been of a very high quality, which has created many chances for his team.
On the opposite wing, Denzel Dumfries was an injury doubt heading into this crunch clash, but the Dutchman has now been passed fit. Hakan Çalhanoğlu is also hoping to be available following a wrist injury, but Henrikh Mkhitaryan is set to miss out. Raffaele Di Gennaro and Tomás Palacios are additional fitness concerns.
Inter predicted lineup vs Milan (3-5-2): Sommer; Akanji, Bastoni, Bisseck; Dimarco, Çalhanoğlu, Barella, Sučić, Dumfries; Martínez, Thuram.
Milan Team News
After surprisingly losing their opening match of this Serie A season against Cremonese, AC Milan have gone 11 games unbeaten across all competitions. They’ve been aided by not playing in Europe and were impressive in a 1-0 victory over Roma three weekends ago. However, they could only manage a 2-2 draw away to Parma last time out.
That was a fourth draw in six outings for the Rossoneri. While they did race into a two-goal lead, it was a poor performance after that. Massimiliano Allegri’s side looked vulnerable to attacks on the flanks, with young wing-back Sascha Britschgi creating both goals for the hosts. Milan were also frequently caught offside as they chased a third.

They’ll need to iron out those issues heading into the derby. Allegri will be hoping the likes of Luka Modrić and Christian Pulisic can see plenty of the ball, but he may opt for some defensive tweaks in such a difficult fixture.
Santiago Giménez is the main fitness doubt for the visitors. They’ve been boosted by the return of Adrien Rabiot following an injury, and he’s in contention for a starting role.
Milan predicted lineup vs Inter (3-5-2): Maignan; Gabbia, Tomori, Pavlović; Estupiñán, Rabiot, Modrić, Fofana, Saelemaekers; Pulisic, Leão.
Inter vs Milan Prediction
- Pick: Inter to win
- Odds: -115 (20Bet)
- Correct score prediction: Inter 1-0 Milan
Barring any major tactical surprises, the two Milan clubs should both line up with 3-5-2 formations in the Derby della Madonnina. That’s likely to result in a congested midfield and some fascinating head-to-head duels on the two wings.
Those battles may go a long way to determining the outcome of the match. Overall, Inter look to have the edge in that department.

Milan left wing-back Pervis Estupiñán had a really tough game a fortnight ago. The Ecuador international is strong going forward, but he’s not the most convincing defensively, and Dumfries should be superior on that side of the pitch. It may be more even between Alexis Saelemaekers and Dimarco on the other flank, with both players enjoying excellent seasons.
The home team also have a bit more physicality in the center of the pitch, which could help them shade what should be a hotly contested clash.
Inter vs Milan Prediction, Betting Tip
- Pick: Under 2.5 goals
- Odds: -110 (20Bet)
Defensively, Inter have been excellent in recent weeks. They’ve only allowed 1.9 xG across their last four matches in all competitions. Even in the three games that have ended in defeat this term, Chivu’s side gave up relatively few clear chances. That suggests it’s going to be hard for the opposing creative players to find gaps in their back three.
Both clubs have appointed new coaches since the most recent meeting in April. That could also lead to a slightly more cagey opening period, as both teams try to figure each other out.
While their recent trip to Parma was an exception, Milan have also defended quite well on their travels overall. They’d only conceded one goal in four away encounters prior to that, and this looks like it could develop into a low-scoring contest.
