Fulham vs Manchester United Preview and Team News
Fulham Team News
Fulham got off to a respectable start to the new season with a 1-1 draw at Brighton last Saturday.
It was a relatively conservative performance from Marco Silva’s side. They didn’t create many clear chances, but found a way to stay in the game before snatching a dramatic 97th-minute equalizer through substitute Rodrigo Muniz.
The Cottagers tend to fly under the radar to some extent, but unlike many of their direct competitors in the middle of the Premier League, they’ve not been rocked by any major departures. Back-up keeper Benjamin Lecomte is their only fresh face, so there’s real continuity from last term.
Scandinavian roots. Fulham class.

Having won all three of their warm-up matches, there were no major surprises in their opener. Silva used a 4-2-3-1 system as expected, and as was the case during the 2024/25 campaign, they were relatively assured on the ball, completing 83% of their passes.
However, they were missing a touch of attacking spark. The injury absence of key full-back Antonee Robinson may well explain that. The USA international, who registered 10 EPL assists last year, will miss this fixture too, while Ryan Sessegnon is also doubtful.
Fulham predicted lineup vs Manchester United (4-2-3-1): Leno; Bassey, Cuenca, Andersen, Tete; Lukić, Berge; Iwobi, King, Wilson; Jiménez.
Manchester United Team News
Manchester United experienced the familiar sensation of a home Premier League defeat on matchday one. They lost 47% of their Old Trafford fixtures last season, but after an active summer, there were plenty of positives for Ruben Amorim in a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.
The Red Devils came out on top in virtually every metric, apart from the one that really matters. They had a higher xG than their opponents, completed 174 more passes, and won the shot count by 13. There were several lively breaks from Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as a reshaped attack largely impressed, although the finishing touch eluded them.

However, Man United’s problems in goal haunted them once more. With previous number one André Onana axed from the squad, Altay Bayındır started between the sticks. The 27-year-old was at fault as the Gunners scored what would prove to be the winner in just the 13th minute.
While the result was a setback, following an unbeaten preseason, United have something to build from. New striker Benjamin Šeško may come into the lineup in West London, but Lisandro Martínez and Noussair Mazraoui are still out injured.
Manchester United predicted lineup vs Fulham (3-4-2-1): Bayındır; Shaw, de Ligt, Yoro; Dorgu, Casemiro, Fernandes, Diallo; Cunha, Mbeumo; Šeško.
Fulham vs Manchester United Prediction
- Pick: Manchester United to win
- Odds: +118 (20Bet)
- Correct score prediction: Fulham 1-2 Manchester United
If United can match the quality of their opening performance, they stand a great chance of winning this game. This assumes, of course, that they’ll be more ruthless in front of goal, but there is real pace and energy in their attack now.
With a combined total of 35 goals in the Premier League last term, it surely won’t be long before Cunha and Mbeumo find their shooting boots.
By contrast, Fulham didn’t really impress in the final third at the American Express Stadium. So many of their brightest moves in the 2024/25 campaign originated down the left flank with Robinson. They don’t have a natural replacement who can replicate that threat, and a difficult afternoon may await the Whites.
Fulham vs Manchester United Prediction, Betting Tip
- Pick: Bryan Mbeumo 1+ goals
- Odds: +225 (20Bet)
In gameweek one, Mbeumo consistently found pockets of space, despite being faced with a strong Arsenal defense. The ex-Brentford man took five shots, more than any other player across the 90 minutes.
He should operate in the same role at Craven Cottage.
While Šeško might need some time to settle in England, following his move from the Bundesliga, that shouldn’t be an issue for Mbeumo. The 26-year-old is at the peak of his powers, following four seasons in the league, and should be capable of opening his Man Utd account in this one.
