Curaçao vs Canada Preview and Team News

Curaçao Team News

Curaçao opened their Group B campaign in the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a barren draw against El Salvador.

The team controlled much of the game with 61% possession, but could only convert this dominance into three shots on target. Defensively, however, they were solid, allowing only one shot on target.

In the lead-up to the Gold Cup, Curaçao played four times and won four times, displaying high-level performances and great form under Dick Advocaat. This run of form set them up well for the Gold Cup competition. However, they will need top their performances if they are to progress from Group B.

Curaçao manager Dick Advocaat will have the full complement of his squad to choose from, with no announced injury or suspension issues ahead of the clash.

The Dutch tactician is expected to stick with the fluid 4-2-3-1 formation he employed against El Salvador. The two midfielders at the base of midfield will allow them to defend better and protect the back-four, while allowing the front four to attack with freedom.

Curaçao predicted lineup vs Canada (4-2-3-1): Room; Gaari, Martina, van Eijma, Floranus; Comenencia, L. Bacuna; Margaritha, J. Bacuna, Gorre; Kastaneer.

Canada Team News

Canada made a storming start to their Group B campaign with a dominant 6-0 victory against Honduras. With five different scorers, Jesse Marsch’s side underscored their fine form and brilliant quality in spectacular fashion.

In the five matches leading up to the Gold Cup, Canada played three matches in the Concacaf Nations League and two friendlies. In the Concacaf Nations League, Jesse Marsch’s men beat Suriname (3-2) in the quarter-final, lost to Mexico (0-2) in the semi-final, before beating the USA in the match for 3rd place. In the friendlies, they beat Ukraine (4-2) and drew (0-0) against Ivory Coast, losing 4-5 on penalties.

This run of form, which saw them score nine times, concede five times, and keep two clean sheets, sums up Jesse Marsch’s approach. Canada are good going forward, but they give away goals in their defensive phase.

With no injuries or suspensions announced, Marsch will look to maintain the high level of performance that his charges have produced, sticking with the attacking 4-4-2 formation that has served them well during their impressive run.

Canada predicted lineup vs Curaçao (4-4-2): Clair; Sigur, de Fougerolles, Waterman, Laryea; Buchanan, Saliba, Choinière, Ahmed; Oluwaseyi, David.

Curaçao vs Canada Prediction

  • Pick: Canada To Win
  • Odds: -371 (20Bet)
  • Correct score prediction: Curaçao 1-3 Canada

Canada have a slight edge heading into this match. Marsch’s 4-4-2 system can morph into a three-man midfield and a three-man attack when out of possession and a four-man frontline when attacking.

Playing with two strikers, Oluwaseyi and David, gives the team a tactical advantage – the two forwards can occupy defenders, pressing them when off the ball and stretching them when in attack.

Meanwhile, Advocaat’s 4-2-3-1 formation hands Curaçao an edge in midfield, with extra players at the base to provide defensive security. However, they’ll have to defend deep to keep the prolific Canadian attack at bay.

Given their current form and overall quality, Canada are odds-on to win this match and secure back-to-back wins in Group B.

Curaçao vs Canada Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Winning Margin – Canada by 2
  • Odds: +280 (20Bet)

Canada showcased their attacking prowess at the Gold Cup with the six goals they notched against Honduras. Their form in the lead-up to the tournament has also shown that they have a cutting edge in attack, which they’re expected to carry into the clash against Curaçao.

Advocaat’s men will provide stiff opposition. Their tight defensive organization makes it difficult for opponents to create and take chances.

Still, with Jonathan David and Tani Oluwaseyi both in good form, Canada have the ability to create and score goals and are well-positioned to win by a two-goal margin.
