Colombia vs Ghana Preview and Team News

Colombia Team News

It was an impressive group stage for Colombia, with victories over Uzbekistan and DR Congo. They followed that up with an excellent display in a 0-0 draw against Portugal to finish top of the group.

Los Cafeteros secured control in midfield in their last match. The likes of Bruno Fernandes and João Neves were outshone by Gustavo Puerta and Jhon Arias, who both completed more than 95% of their passes. James Rodríguez also showed that he can still influence games at the highest level by creating several chances.

Néstor Lorenzo should have a full squad to select from in Kansas City. Changes at full-back are likely, with Johan Mojica and Daniel Muñoz set to rotate back in. Luis Suárez, who has scored five times in 15 international appearances, is also expected to return up front in place of Jhon Córdoba.

Colombia predicted lineup vs Ghana (4-2-3-1): Vargas; Mojica, Lucumí, Davinson, Muñoz; Lerma, Puerta; Díaz, James, J. Arias; Suárez.

Ghana Team News

After beating Panama 1-0 in their first match in Group L, Ghana resorted to defensive tactics in their final two games. They used a low block against England and held on for a 0-0 draw. Despite recording only two attempts on goal, the Black Stars still had moments when they broke with speed and could have won had they been awarded a second-half penalty.

They had more territory and more of the ball in a 2-1 defeat to Croatia last time out, but Carlos Queiroz may revert to a deeper, counterattacking approach for this fixture.

Antoine Semenyo remains Ghana’s primary attacking outlet. He scored 17 goals in the Premier League last season, but his international return of just three goals in 37 appearances is disappointing.

Semenyo has shaken off an ankle issue and is sure to start. Queiroz has a bigger call to make in goal. Lawrence Ati Zigi is available again following injury and is hoping to take Benjamin Asare’s place in the lineup.

Ghana predicted lineup vs Colombia (4-3-3): Ati Zigi; Mensah, Opoku, Adjetey, Senaya; Sibo, Yirenkyi, Partey; Sulemana, Semenyo, Ayew.

Colombia vs Ghana Prediction

  • Pick: Colombia to win
  • Odds: -189 (20Bet)
  • Correct score prediction: Colombia 2-0 Ghana

South American World Cup qualifying involved plenty of cagey clashes, with six of the 10 sides conceding 1.0 goal per game or fewer. Colombia, therefore, have considerable experience of playing against teams who drop deep.

That should help them find a way past Ghana. With the likes of James and Jhon Arias on the pitch, Los Cafeteros have players who can create opportunities even when there is little space. They also benefit from excellent set-piece deliveries, which should aid their chances of winning.

Lorenzo’s men have won 69% of their matches since the start of the 2025-26 season. They should prove too strong for a Ghanaian outfit that have averaged only 5.0 shots per game at this World Cup.

Colombia vs Ghana Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Luis Díaz to score anytime
  • Odds: +170 (20Bet)

The player most likely to find a breakthrough for Colombia is Luis Díaz. He’s in the form of his life, having netted 15 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances last season for Bayern Munich. He also found the net seven times on the Champions League stage and offers a great threat with his movement off the left flank.

Díaz has already scored at this World Cup, and he’s averaging 3.7 shots per 90 minutes, more than any of his teammates. He should be well positioned to exploit the matchup against Ghana right-back Marvin Senaya, who is also prone to making mistakes under heavy pressure.
