Canada vs Ecuador Preview and Team News

Canada Team News

Canada don’t have any injured players in their ranks. They’re one of the best teams in North America and will want to showcase all their qualities against Ecuador. The Canucks have been in decent form recently, going unbeaten in four of their last five outings, the latest of which was a goalless draw with Colombia

Canada had just 40% of the ball in that match and weren’t very expressive in the final third. They took a mere four shots, only one of which was on target. They were marked very closely by the Colombian defenders and, as a result, couldn’t create even one big chance.

Even their passing accuracy was 77%, way below the level they usually display in big games. Two of the shots they took were off target, while one was blocked. That none of their attempts even hit the woodwork shows that Canada struggled to be incisive in the box.

Canada predicted lineup vs Ecuador (4-4-2): St. Clair; Laryea, Cornelius, De Fougerolles, Sigur; Ahmed, Eustaquio, Kone, Buchanan; David, Oluwaseyi.

Ecuador Team News

Ecuador are currently ranked 23rd by FIFA, five spots above their opponents, Canada. They’ve been unbeaten in their last 13 games and have no injured players in their squad. The team tend to play with a 4-3-3 formation in which a lot of importance is given to the upturning of the flanks and loading them with attacking moves.

They showed this in their recent 1-1 draw with Mexico, where winger John Yeboah completed the most dribbles (3). He put up an excellent show for the traveling supporters, as he also won the most duels (7) in the match. Although his passing accuracy was at a mere 54%, he walked away with his head held high.

Fellow winger Alan Minda had a better time with passing the ball, as he registered an 86% success rate. Midfielder Jordy Alcivar, who scored their lone goal, also made three critical defensive contributions. Alcivar had a 100% shooting accuracy even though he operated in a box-to-box role in the center of the park.

Ecuador predicted lineup vs Canada (4-3-3): Galindez; Medina, Pacho, Ordonez, Preciado; Vite, Alcivar, Franco; Minda, Valencia, Yeboah.

Canada vs Ecuador Prediction

  • Pick: Ecuador to win or draw
  • Odds: -244 (20Bet)
  • Correct score prediction: Canada 1-1 Ecuador

Both teams are well-matched in all three departments: attack, midfield, and defense, though the visitors might have a slight advantage. Ecuador are on a roll and have the momentum of good form behind them. No squad have been able to defeat them in 13 outings, and it doesn’t appear that Canada will either.

The South American side also know how to squeeze themselves out of tough situations and have become almost experts at playing crosses and lobbed balls in the final third. Canada, on the other hand, focus on building from the back and retaining their shape along with possession. Ecuador, being the more flamboyant of the two, should either win or draw.

Canada vs Ecuador Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Both teams to score
  • Odds: -105 (20Bet)

We expect both teams to score. Ecuador are more likely to do so, at least earlier in the game, than Canada, due to their passing skills. However, the hosts, too, will fight back with their possession-based style.

The Canadians prefer a 4-4-2 formation, with their attackers often operating on the overlap. These players may find it a tad challenging to penetrate the Ecuadorian defense due to the latter’s zonal marking system, but the Canucks should score at least once.

The visitors, meanwhile, create counterattacking chances quickly, meaning Canada can’t afford to lose the ball in midfield or defense.
