This victory was important for Marcelo Bielsa’s team, who currently ranks second in the standings and are only three points behind Argentina. 

This result comes as a major relief for La Celeste, who had endured a frustrating five-game winless streak prior to this fixture, including four draws and a surprising 1-0 defeat to Peru.

Bielsa’s signature pressing system struggled to yield goals during that period, but Uruguay’s win over Colombia keeps them firmly in the race. They sit second in the standings and just three points behind Argentina, which will be their next opponent after their clash with Brazil.

Brazil needs the victory but will face a difficult opponent known for playing an intensive brand of soccer, commonly referred to as Bielsa-ball. It focuses on excessive physical demands, which forces players to run endlessly up and down the pitch.
