Brazil vs Chile Preview and Team News
Brazil Team News
Despite struggling throughout a qualifying campaign that has seen them lose five times and average only 1.31 goals per game, Brazil have still secured a place at the 2026 World Cup. However, a heavy 4-1 defeat to arch-rivals Argentina in March led to the sacking of their coach, Dorival Júnior.
Carlo Ancelotti has since taken over and will be the man to lead them into next summer’s tournament. The Italian has already overseen two matches, although improvements were not immediately evident, at least not in attack.

The five-time world champions registered only three attempts in a drab goalless draw in Ecuador before edging past Paraguay 1-0 in their second fixture under the new boss. In that encounter, the ex-Real Madrid coach used a 4-2-3-1 system, with Vinícius Júnior starting in a central role and scoring the only goal.
There’ll be no repeat of that this week, with Ancelotti opting to leave out many of the players who featured at the Club World Cup, including Vinícius and all of his teammates in the Spanish capital. Alex Sandro, Vanderson, Joelinton, and Matheus Cunha have also withdrawn from the initial squad due to injuries.
Brazil predicted lineup vs Chile (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Henrique, Marquinhos, Gabriel, Wesley; Casemiro, Guimarães; Raphinha, Paquetá, Martinelli; Richarlison.
Chile Team News
The World Cup dream is already over for Chile, who have picked up just 10 points from their 16 qualifiers to date. Coach Ricardo Gareca stepped down after their most recent fixtures in June, which ended in a 1-0 defeat to Argentina and a 2-0 loss to Bolivia.
They were particularly poor last time out, failing to make the most of a one-man advantage, which lasted for nearly 40 minutes in El Alto. Gareca’s side registered 13 attempts, but most were harmless efforts from range, with their xG tally of 0.26 suggesting they deserved nothing more from their latest defeat.

A permanent successor hasn’t been appointed yet, with under-20 coach Nicolás Córdova currently serving as interim boss. He has clearly had one eye on the future with his squad selection, as no player over the age of 31 has been called up.
The experienced trio of Arturo Vidal, Alexis Sánchez, and Eduardo Vargas won’t feature as a result, while nine uncapped players have been included. Among them are three new goalkeepers: Thomas Gillier, Vicente Reyes, and Lawrence Vigouroux.
Chile predicted lineup vs Brazil (4-3-3): Gillier; Hormazábal, Maripán, Kuscevic, Suazo; Osorio, Echeverría, Loyola; Tapia, Brereton Díaz, Aravena.
Brazil vs Chile Prediction
- Pick: Brazil to win
- Odds: -476 (20Bet)
- Correct score prediction: Brazil 2-0 Chile
This fixture is essentially a free hit for Chile. Their bid to make the World Cup has long since collapsed, and with a temporary coach in charge and many of their veterans missing, nothing is expected of them here.
While Brazil are also missing some key figures, they have a lot of experience and quality in the middle of the park. The likes of Bruno Guimarães, Casemiro, and Lucas Paquetá should dominate against a youthful Chilean midfield. That ought to allow them to frequently progress the ball to Raphinha, who may be the game’s main goal threat.
Brazil vs Chile Prediction, Betting Tip
- Pick: Under 2.5 goals
- Odds: +105 (20Bet)
We’ve not seen much attacking fluency from Brazil in recent years, with various coaches struggling to get the best out of the considerable talent they’ve had at their disposal. Ancelotti’s first two outings produced only one goal, and there were no significant structural changes that offered a quick fix.
The experimentation should continue in this fixture, which is little more than a glorified friendly, with nothing on the line for either team. The Seleção should dominate against a poor Chile side, but they don’t have many offensive players who have proven themselves as clinical finishers at this level.
With Vinícius or Rodrygo absent, Brazil look much less likely to chalk up a big victory, and this may be another relatively low-scoring affair for the hosts.
