Barcelona vs Valencia Preview and Team News

Barcelona Team News

This encounter was supposed to mark Barcelona’s return to Camp Nou after more than two years. However, fresh delays to the construction work mean it will be staged at their reserve stadium, which boasts a capacity of just 6,000. That shouldn’t have a major impact on Hansi Flick’s team, who are hoping to bounce back from dropped points last time out.

After seeing off Mallorca and Levante in their opening fixtures, Barça struggled against Rayo Vallecano. Their only goal came from a controversial penalty, awarded while VAR wasn’t working in the stadium. The Catalans couldn’t match the intensity of an impressive Rayo side, who frequently broke their offside trap and created better opportunities from open play.

There’s no reason to panic as far as the Spanish champions are concerned. Key players Pedri and Lamine Yamal have both started the campaign brightly for club and country. However, Flick currently seems unsure as to the identity of his best central defensive partnership, following the summer exit of Iñigo Martínez.

We could see fresh changes in that department here. Meanwhile, the hosts will be missing Marc-André ter Stegen, Alejandro Balde, and Gavi due to injuries. Frenkie de Jong also remains a doubt.

Barcelona predicted lineup vs Valencia (4-2-3-1): J. García; Martín, Cubarsí, E. García, Koundé; Casadó, Pedri; Rashford, Olmo, Yamal; Lewandowski.

Valencia Team News

Having only taken one point from their first two fixtures, Valencia got their season up and running with a 3-0 win over Getafe at Mestalla. Baptiste Santamaria was preferred to Pepelu, which gave them a bit more control in midfield, while fellow new signing Arnaut Danjuma looked lively in attack

He scored an excellent breakaway goal and has the potential to be a difference-maker for Los Che this season, even though his career has stagnated in recent years. Overall, though, Carlos Corberán’s side were nowhere near as dominant as the scoreline suggested. They converted three of their seven shots and only won the xG count by 0.34.

This will be a very different kind of game. They may use Danjuma as a lone striker, with an extra defender coming in. Out of possession, they could set up with a 5-4-1 structure. They’ll likely sense an opportunity to catch Barça out in transition, when wingers Diego López and Luis Rioja push up to offer support to the forward.

The visitors are expected to have a full squad to select from. However, they don’t have as much quality as last season, when the likes of Enzo Barrenechea, Cristhian Mosquera, and Giorgi Mamardashvili were still at the club.

Valencia predicted lineup vs Barcelona (5-4-1): Agirrezabala; Gayà, Copete, Tárrega, Diakhaby, Foulquier; López, Guerra, Santamaria, Rioja; Danjuma.

Barcelona vs Valencia Prediction

  • Pick: Barcelona to win
  • Odds: -400 (20Bet)
  • Correct score prediction: Barcelona 4-1 Valencia

These clubs have met twice already in 2025, with Barcelona recording 7-1 and 5-0 victories. Those results both came after Corberán took charge of Valencia. His overall impact has been really positive, but the 42-year-old hasn’t found any solutions against this opposition. With a weakened defense, it’s hard to see his team faring any better in this match.

Marcus Rashford is on board, so the hosts have more attacking options now. That may allow Flick to rest Raphinha for at least part of this game following his return from international duty with Brazil.

Robert Lewandowski and in-form Ferran Torres will also share responsibilities up top, so there’ll be no time to rest for the visiting backline. All signs point to just one result.

Barcelona vs Valencia Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Barcelona to win & Both teams to score
  • Odds: +128 (20Bet)

The 2024/25 campaign in Barcelona was defined by their attacking brilliance, but also their risky tactics that did leave their high line exposed at times. All the signs are that we’ll see a continuation of that over the next nine months.

If anything, they’ve looked even more vulnerable on the break in their last two matches. The departure of Martínez leaves them without the player credited for organizing the back four, and specifically the timing of the offside trap, which was very important for Barça last season.

Somebody else may take on that role eventually, but they could be caught out at times in the upcoming game, with Balde’s injury also a potential problem at left-back. With López a threat on the flank and Danjuma quick enough to get in behind the home defense, Valencia are capable of getting on the scoresheet.
