Barcelona vs Paris Saint-Germain Preview and Team News

Barcelona Team News

Barcelona will be without six key players in this crucial clash. Alejandro Balde has been ruled out with a hamstring issue, while Fermin Lopez has sustained a hip injury.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the club’s top goalkeeper, has been sidelined with a back injury, whereas Gavi has picked up a meniscus issue and won’t be available for selection until January next year.

Their second goalkeeper, Joan Garcia, is also out with a meniscus problem, meaning veteran Wojciech Szczęsny is expected to start. Another major absentee is Raphinha, who has an issue with his thigh and won’t be available until October.

Manager Hansi Flick has shaped Barcelona into a predominantly attacking unit, and the results are there for everyone to see. The team have won five straight matches and put up immense shows of dominance.

Their most recent win, a 2-1 outing against Real Sociedad, proved their credentials further as they moved to the top of the league table with 19 points. In that encounter, Barça held 75% possession and produced an xG of 2.21. They took 22 shots in that fixture, 12 of which were on target and five big chances.

Barcelona predicted lineup vs Paris Saint-Germain (4-2-3-1): Szczesny; Martin, Araujo, Christensen, Kounde; Pedri, de Jong; Rashford, Olmo, Ferran Torres; Lewandowski.

Paris Saint-Germain Team News

Paris Saint-Germain, the defending UEFA Champions League champions, have five injured players. Fabian Ruiz, Marquinhos, Desire Doue, Joao Neves, and Ousmane Dembele are all doubtful starters. Along with this quintet, Noham Kamara is unavailable due to international duty.

Dembele, who has recently won the Ballon d’Or, will be a big miss for Luis Enrique’s side, as he can single-handedly turn the nature of any game with his sharpshooting skills.

Doue, who lit up last season’s Champions League final against Inter Milan with a brace and an assist, has picked up a calf injury and will only be available toward the end of next month.

The visitors have won four of their last five matches and come into this one on the back of a sound 2-0 victory over Auxerre. In that outing, they registered 66% possession and 15 shots, five of which were on target, and completed 52% of their dribbles.

Defensively, the French giants also held their own, winning 45% of their ground duels and 50% of their aerial duels. Overall, they made 21 tackles, seven interceptions, six blocks, and 23 clearances.

Paris Saint-Germain predicted lineup vs Barcelona (4-3-3): Chevalier; Hernandez, Beraldo, Zabarnyi, Zaire-Emery; Mayulu, Vitinha, Lee; Kvaratskhelia, Ramos, Mbaye.

Barcelona vs Paris Saint-Germain Prediction

  • Pick: Barcelona to win
  • Odds: -104 (20Bet)
  • Correct score prediction: Barcelona 2-1 Paris Saint-Germain

The visitors have an edge over their opponents due to the cohesive nature of their passing. However, injuries to Dembele and Doue are likely to take away their numerical advantage. Barça, on the other hand, are close to full strength.

Supported by Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres, Robert Lewandowski will be counted on to punish any defensive lapses from the French giants. With PSG’s injury list limiting their options, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia stands out as their main threat from the flanks. We expect Barcelona to win this match.

Barcelona vs Paris Saint-Germain Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Both teams to score
  • Odds: -256 (20Bet)

Despite their injuries, PSG still have enough firepower to breach the Barcelona defense at least once. The hosts, meanwhile, should find scoring opportunities of their own with relative ease. We expect BTTS (both teams to score) in this fixture.

While Lewandowski, Rashford and Torres will be the flagbearers for the Blaugrana, Kvaratskhelia and Goncalo Ramos will have to do all the hard work for the visitors.

More than anything else, this game will witness a chess match between two of the greatest coaches of all time – Flick and Enrique. The latter, who was earlier Barcelona’s coach, will aim to pick up a win at his former home, but it won’t be easy. The Catalan side are extremely clinical in attack and are known to clean up well in defense thanks to the compact nature of Flick’s strategies.
