Aston Villa vs Burnley Preview and Team News
Aston Villa Team News
After a miserable start to the season, Aston Villa look to have turned a corner, having won their last three matches in all competitions. They’ve seen off Bologna and Feyenoord in the Europa League and picked up their first domestic victory by beating Fulham 3-1 at home last weekend.
They returned to Rotterdam, the scene of the club’s famous 1982 European Cup victory on Thursday, and were second best in the first half. Marco Bizot needed to make five saves before the break to keep Unai Emery’s side on level terms. However, they turned it around in the second half, with John McGinn once again playing a key role in a 2-0 triumph.

Injuries have forced the Scotland international into a deeper role over the past fortnight. He frequently leads the press, but his new position hasn’t stopped him from injecting some much-needed energy into an under-performing side. He has also chipped in with three goals in as many games, while a resurgent Emi Buendia has added a bit of imagination in the final third.
The hosts are still short on midfield options, with Youri Tielemans, Amadou Onana, and Ross Barkley doubtful again. Tyrone Mings has also picked up a knock, so Pau Torres may continue in central defense. Emiliano Martínez was a late withdrawal against Feyenoord, so Bizot is on standby to start once more.
Aston Villa predicted lineup vs Burnley (4-2-3-1): Bizot; Digne, Torres, Konsa, Cash; Kamara, McGinn; Buendia, Rogers, Malen; Watkins.
Burnley Team News
Having started the campaign as the pre-season relegation favorites, Burnley are in the bottom three after only six games. They’ve been dealt a tough schedule to start life back in the Premier League, with a 5-1 defeat against Manchester City their most recent setback. That was their fourth loss in six outings so far, while their only win came at home to Sunderland.
They were level heading into the final 30 minutes against Pep Guardiola’s side. However, not for the first time, they ran out of gas and conceded four late goals. The Clarets have already allowed 12.3 xG this term, the worst record in the Premier League and the fourth-worst tally in Europe’s top five leagues.

That doesn’t bode well for their survival prospects, but they’re carrying an attacking threat through Jaidon Anthony. The 25-year-old has impressed on the left flank, with his ability to cut inside and either get crosses into the penalty area or unleash shots. The winger has netted four of the Lancashire club’s six goals, with only Erling Haaland scoring more in the English top flight.
Scott Parker’s team are likely to be missing three players to injury at Villa Park, with Jordan Beyer, Zeki Amdouni, and Connor Roberts all sidelined.
Burnley predicted lineup vs Aston Villa (5-4-1): Dúbravka; Hartman, Ekdal, Laurent, Estève, Walker; Anthony, Luís, Cullen, Tchaouna; Foster.
Aston Villa vs Burnley Prediction
- Pick: Aston Villa to win
- Odds: -167 (20Bet)
- Correct score prediction: Aston Villa 2-0 Burnley
Villa are still far from their best in the final third. Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers both look low on confidence, while new signing Evann Guessand has yet to reproduce his Nice form, following a summer transfer to the Birmingham club.
However, their collective level is gradually improving, with the belief clearly returning to at least some of their players.
They should be able to handle the quick turnaround, as there’s depth to this squad, with late signings Harvey Elliott and Jadon Sancho sure to make bigger contributions over the coming weeks. Even if the Villans need to turn to the bench, they ought to have enough firepower to break down a Burnley defense that has struggled to close out games and hold on to results.
Aston Villa vs Burnley Prediction, Betting Tip
- Pick: Aston Villa to win & Under 3.5 goals
- Odds: +124 (20Bet)
This is a meeting of the two clubs with the lowest xG tallies in the Premier League. Given how toothless Villa have been offensively at times, Parker may again see a conservative 5-4-1 system as his team’s best path to potentially getting a point in the Midlands.
They could have some success frustrating their hosts, but there’s variety to the home attack, and there are a number of other players in the squad who could produce a moment of quality to settle this. Emery’s side should also win the midfield battle, with Boubacar Kamara as a classy operator in the holding role.
