Arsenal vs Ipswich Town Preview

Arsenal

Arsenal currently rank third in the Premier League, registering 33 points in 17 games, six points behind league leaders Liverpool.

The Gunners have remained undefeated in the competition since November 2nd, when they lost to Newcastle (1-0). However, they have struggled against top teams, resulting in draws against Manchester City (2-2), Chelsea (1-1), and Liverpool (2-2).

Despite significant investment since Mikel Arteta’s appointment, the team struggles to convince when it comes to the attack, and fans believe the Gunners should be scoring more goals.

December wasn’t kind to Arsenal in the Premier League, as they drew with Fulham (1-1) and Everton (0-0). However, the Gunners took their revenge against Crystal Palace, first defeating them in the EFL Cup (3-2) and then in the Premier League (1-5).

In Europe, Arsenal sit in third place in the Champions League. From their six games they lost against Inter (1-0) but secured victories against PSG, Shakhtar, Sporting and Monaco.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Buyako Saka will be sidelined for Arsenal’s last match of the year.

Ipswich Town

When Ipswich were promoted to the Premier League this season, most fans and tipsters believed they would struggle to adapt to the league’s tempo, both in attack and defence. They seem to be right, with Ipswich now ranking 19th out of 20 and registering only two victories and twelve points in seventeen matches.

The Tractor Boys have scored 16 goals, which is second-lowest in the league, while conceding 32. Statistically, it means that they average one goal scored for two conceded per game.

Ipswich won for the first time of the season against Tottenham in early November (1-2), and their second victory dates back to two weeks ago, when they defeated Wolverhampton (1-2).  Interestingly, both victories came away from home, an uncommon occurrence for struggling teams. They will face Chelsea, another London-based team three days after the clash against Arsenal.

Jacob Greaves, Alex Tuanzebe, and Sam Morsey will be sidelined.

Arsenal vs Ipswich Town Prediction

  • Pick: Arsenal to win
  • Odds: -714 (20Bet)
  • Score prediction: Arsenal 4-0 Ipswich Town

Arsenal are undoubtedly the favourites for this encounter. Ipswich struggle to keep a clean sheet, while Arsenal famously are one of the best defending teams in the Premier League. The match will be played at the Emirates, tilting the match further to Arsenal’s favour.

The Gunners just defeated Crystal Palace 5-1 before Christmas, and it’s likely that fans will see a similar scoreline on Friday night.

Arsenal vs Ipswich Town Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Kai Havertz to score
  • Odds: +114 (20Bet)

Kai Havertz might not be a traditional number nine, but his physicality allows him to outmatch defenders who struggle against taller forwards.

Ipswich have trouble defending in the box, which makes it the perfect chance for Havertz to score a few goals. He has scored six goals in 16 games, and the absence of Jacob Greaves increases the chances for Havertz to be successful in front of goal.
