You’re loyal to your favourite team and always back them to win, but now and then, they let you down with a draw. A Draw No Bet wager comes in handy when you think a draw is possible. You can still back your team, and if the match finishes level, your stake is returned.
That refund has a cost: shorter odds and a lower potential payout than a standard win bet. Understanding this trade-off can help you decide when the market fits your draw no bet betting strategy, whether you follow the Canadian Premier League (CPL) or soccer further afield.
Note: All odds in this article are hypothetical and used for illustration only. They are not real prices for any match.
What Does Draw No Bet Mean?
The Draw No Bet (DNB) market is straightforward: you choose one team to win, for example Forge FC or Cavalry FC. There is no draw selection. A win pays at the agreed odds. A draw makes the bet void, meaning it is cancelled and settled as if it was never placed, so your full stake comes back. A defeat loses your stake.
Let’s look at an example. Say you place a CA$10 Draw No Bet wager on Forge FC to beat Cavalry FC at hypothetical odds of 1.80. Here’s how each result affects your bet:
- Forge FC win: you receive CA$18 including your CA$10 stake, for CA$8 profit.
- The match is drawn: your CA$10 comes back, with no profit or loss.
- Forge FC lose: you lose your CA$10 stake.
DNB has the same win, refund and loss outcomes as Asian handicap 0, also called level ball, when both cover the same playing period. Their settlement math is identical, although the prices offered can differ.
Draw No Bet vs Standard 1X2 — What’s the Difference?
With 1X2, you can back the home team (1), the draw (X) or the away team (2). Back either team, and a draw loses your bet. DNB only lets you pick a team to win, but returns your stake if the match finishes level.
DNB odds are shorter because of that refund. Say Forge FC are priced at a hypothetical 2.10 to win in 1X2, with the draw at 3.40, and 1.48 in DNB. If Forge win, a CA$10 bet returns CA$21 on 1X2 and CA$14.80 on DNB. That’s CA$11 profit compared with CA$4.80. If Forge lose, you lose your CA$10 with either option. These are decimal odds; 20Bet’s guide on how to read soccer betting odds explains other formats.
| Result | 1X2: Forge FC to win (2.10) | DNB: Forge FC (1.48) |
|---|---|---|
| Forge FC win | CA$21 returned (CA$11 profit) | CA$14.80 returned (CA$4.80 profit) |
| Draw | CA$10 stake lost | CA$10 stake returned |
| Forge FC lose | CA$10 stake lost | CA$10 stake lost |
If you think a team has the edge but a draw is a real possibility, Draw No Bet is worth considering. Just don’t assume the refund makes any price worth taking.
When Canadian Bettors Should Use Draw No Bet
A DNB can suit your strategy, but how you use it matters.
Backing the stronger side in a low-scoring match: Cavalry FC look stronger in a CPL fixture, but you expect Forge FC to sit deep. A draw returns your stake, but a Cavalry win pays less than a straight win bet would. Decide whether the 1X2 price is worth the risk of losing on a draw.
Cup or knockout soccer: If the DNB market covers 90 minutes plus stoppage time, a draw returns your stake even if a team wins later in extra time or on penalties. The 2026 Canadian Championship final finished 1-1 between Forge FC and CF Montréal before Forge won on penalties, so a 90-minute DNB bet on either side was void. Check the settlement rules before betting, and see 20Bet’s Canadian Championship predictions for upcoming ties.
Parlays and Bet Builders: In a parlay, a drawn DNB leg usually counts at odds of 1.00, which lowers the potential return, and any losing leg still loses the bet. In a Bet Builder (several selections from one match), check the rules for void selections first. 20Bet’s soccer parlay guide explains how parlays are built.
How to Work Out Draw No Bet Odds Yourself
You can estimate a fair DNB price from the 1X2 odds with one formula:
DNB odds = win odds × (draw odds − 1) ÷ draw odds
Using the hypothetical Forge FC prices above:
- Take the draw odds and subtract 1: 3.40 − 1 = 2.40.
- Multiply by the win odds: 2.10 × 2.40 = 5.04.
- Divide by the draw odds: 5.04 ÷ 3.40 ≈ 1.48.
Live (In-Play) Draw No Bet
You may also find Draw No Bet markets during a match. Settlement rules for in-play bets can differ from pre-match bets. At some sportsbooks, a live DNB bet is settled only on goals scored after the bet is placed, not on the final score. Before betting live, check 20Bet’s Betting Rules to see how in-play DNB is settled.
Draw No Bet Tips
By now, you should have a clear idea of how DNB works in soccer betting. These tips can help clear up any remaining questions.
Compare potential profits: Work out what the same stake would earn on DNB and 1X2. A small gap doesn’t automatically make DNB good value. Think about how likely your team is to win or lose, as well as the chance of a draw.
Read the settlement terms: For knockout matches, check the playing period and whether extra time or penalties count. You can review 20Bet’s Betting Rules and contact support before betting if anything is unclear.
Know what a draw does to each market: A Double Chance bet on Forge FC to win or draw counts the draw as a winning result. DNB treats the same draw as void and only returns your stake. Mixing the two up is a common beginner mistake. For how DNB sits alongside Double Chance and handicap markets more broadly, see 20Bet’s overview of lower-risk soccer markets.
